Before the winter shopping starts, the club has to answer a simple question: what kind of lineup does it want to be? The facts Texas finished 80-82, one game behind Houston in the AL West, per Dallas Sports Journal. The two clubs were tied going into Game 162, and the Astros held the tiebreaker after winning the season series 9-4. The Rangers went 45-36 at home and 35-46 on the road. They've missed the playoffs every year since the 2023 title, going 78-84 in 2024 and 81-81 in 2025. On SI's Rangers site, Matthew Nethercott argues the fix is slug. Texas hit 183 home runs in 2026, about league average, and posted a 103 wRC+ at home, 17th in baseball. Rangers fans, the medical updates are done. Now the offseason turns to money, and the arbitration list is long. MLB Trade Rumors' annual projections, built by Matt Swartz's model, list 10 Rangers who are eligible for arbitration . The biggest numbers are MacKenzie Gore at $8.7 million, Jake Burger at $6.9 million, Josh Jung at $5.2 million and Ezequiel Durán at $4 million. Wyatt Langford ($3.3 million), Logan O'Hoppe ($3.1 million) and closer Jacob Latz ($3 million) are next. Evan Carter ($1.7 million), Cody Bradford ($1.3 million) and Robert Garcia ($1.1 million) round it out. Rangers fans, the first real news of the offseason is medical, and most of it is the good kind. The club announced Friday that Corey Seager had surgery Tuesday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow , his throwing elbow, MLB.com's Brian Murphy reports. He's expected to make a full recovery in time to start his normal offseason work. Chris Young said on Sept. 28 that Seager had dealt with the spur "for a few months" and that minor surgery might be needed. Seager never went on the injured list for the elbow. His two IL stints this year were for low back inflammation, and he also spent time on the seven-day concussion IL in June. It helps explain a down year. The 32-year-old played 102 games and set career lows in batting average (.227) and OPS (.736), per MLB.com. SI's Matt Postins has his line at .227/.312/.424 with 20 homers and 51 RBI. Rangers fans, here's the number that hurts: 82. As SI's Matt Postins lays out, the AL West made history in 2026 as the first division won by a team without a winning record. Houston took it at 81-81, one game ahead of the Rangers at 80-82, and it came down to the final day. Texas needed a win and an Astros loss. Neither happened. The Astros were then swept by the White Sox in the wild-card round. At his end-of-season press conference, Chris Young said the club's internal projections had Texas as an 82-to-85 win team: "Coming into this year, we felt like we were between an 82-to-85 win team, somewhere right in there — and that was if things kind of go our way." Rangers fans, the best starting pitcher in Arlington this year wasn't deGrom and it wasn't Eovaldi. SI's Matt Postins makes the case that Cal Quantrill was the Rangers' best starter of 2026, and the most unexpected. Quantrill signed a minor-league deal, came to camp as insurance in the No. 5 starter race, and accepted an option to Triple-A Round Rock when Kumar Rocker won the job. He was back in April as a bulk reliever, then moved into the rotation after Jack Leiter needed ankle surgery. The numbers backed it up. Quantrill finished 9-5 with a 2.86 ERA in 32 games, and in his 15 starts he went 6-5 with a 2.57 ERA , 62 strikeouts and 15 walks over 80.2 innings. In August he went 2-2 with a 1.45 ERA, 29 strikeouts and four walks in 31 innings and was named the Rangers' player of the month by the media. SI's Matthew Nethercott argues the toughest contract decision Texas faces this winter is Corey Seager's — a player still under team control. Seager hit .227 with 20 home runs and a .736 OPS in 2026, and Nethercott writes that he will cost the Rangers $31 million in each of the next five seasons . Th e Texas Rangers have wrapped their series in Seattle against the Mariners. The Rangers fell short in the series and are now headed to Minnesota for a three-game series against the Twins. Despite not being able to win the series, the Rangers had the blessing of bringing back Mike Napoli in a trade with the Boston Red Sox.
