Join me for a Live blog on HoopsHabit.com for tonight's matchup at Staples Center. Will the return of Metta World Peace be enough? http://hoopshabit.com/live-nba-blog-new-orleans-hornets-vs-los-angeles-lakers-4913/

After giving up 71 points in the first half in a blowout loss to the OKC Thunder the night before, the Los Angeles Lakers give up 67 to the New Orleans Hornets. The Hornets had a 25 point lead at one time. The Laker defense finally woke up in the 4th quarter as Kobe Bryant led a 20-0 offensive run to pull out a big win.

Today Caron Butler had season ending surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon in his knee. His last full game with the team he hit 30pts in a loss to the Spurs at home. On the road against the Milwaukee Bucks you can hear him screaming in pain when he hit the knee in the first quarter. You knew then, it was not gonna be good.   Dirk missed his 5th straight game tonight against the Portland Trailblazers, a win by the way. But they have Oklahoma City and Orlando coming up, so will they rush Dirk back? The "Big German" has been a quick healer. The Mavs are only 3 games ahead of the Lakers and Utah right now. The biggest concern has to be falling further behind the Spurs in the division and the conference.   Who will step up now? That is the million dollar question for this team. Deshawn Stevenson had 21pts against the Cavaliers and 18pts tonight. JJ Barea hit 29pts in the loss to the Bucks. Tyson Chandler has back-to-back double doubles in rebounds and points. Jet Terry ...

Coach Rick Carlisle knows what he has to do to have a chance to beat the undefeated Hornets. In the pre-game press conference he said, "the toughest job is guarding Paul...he is one of the really unique players in the game." When asked who was gonna have the task of guarding one of the leagues best he stated it would be a combination of Deshawn Stevenson, Jason Kidd, JJ Barea, and whomever else he can put in there. The last time the Mavs faced an undefeated team this late in the season was during the 2005-06 season, the 8-0 Pistons. The were 6-2 then, like now, and beat the Pistons 119-82 to give them their first loss. That same season they went to the NBA Finals. Hey, who thought the Cowboys would beat the Giants by 13 yesterday...these things happen. I will be looking at Tyson Chandler taking on his old team and going up against Emeka Okafur. The should be a great matchup tonight. Caron Butler is still out for this game.Stay tuned for quarter-by-quarter reporting LIVE from ...
