Stars Close Perfect Preseason 4-0-0; Cap Moves Tighten Roster

Victory Green looks sharp before the real drop — Dallas just finished preseason undefeated. The Stars closed the exhibition slate 4-0-0, allowing just three goals across four games, capped by a 2-1 win over Minnesota. Defense-first identity? Still the franchise DNA. Regular season opens Friday, Oct. 2 vs. St. Louis at American Airlines Center (8 p.m.). Cap chess got real this weekend: Remi Poirier was claimed off waivers by New Jersey after a preseason shutout look, and Colin Blackwell was placed on waivers as Dallas tries to fit a healthy group under the ceiling. Sam Steel's four-year extension (AAV about $3.7M starting next season) locks in a versatile PK piece GM Jim Nill called a valuable asset. Healthy Tyler Seguin and Matt Duchene for opening night would be a big green light. Depth in net for AHL Texas just got thinner — that's the tradeoff.
