The first firing of a manager has taken place just as the calendar has flipped to September. This one was not just a matter of if, it was much more a matter of when it would take place after the dysfunction that had been occurring during the season between manager and GM.

 Its still a mystery to as who the  Astros are going to select with the number one pick in the upcoming draft on June 5th. They have plenty of options when it comes to high caliber prospects that could make an impact on their on their organization. This is a decision that can easily determine just how much farther they can go in terms of improving as a whole and making those steps in the rebuilding process.

With the first pick in yesterday's MLB draft, the Houston Astros drafted RHP Mark Appel from Stanford. In completely different fashion to last year, the Astros went with the expensive college arm instead of the cheap high school talent, a move that will pay off quickly.

As I said in my mock draft, the Astros need pitchers, specifically a front-of-the-rotation ace to be the main building block of their rebuilding efforts.
