Yu Darvish one out away from his first perfect game in season debut versus Houston Astros. Rangers win 7-0
Any questions about Yu Darvish being an ace in Major League Baseball may have been answered tonight. Darvish goes 9 2/3 innnings with a perfect game until a single base hit by Gonzalez up the middle.
New Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski ironically caught a perfect game almost one year ago with the White Sox from pitcher Phillip Humber. After the game Pierzynski said he has "never [been] so bummed out about a shutout" because it was that close.
"He had been so good all night with the slider and cutter...We threw a cutter and he just hung it."
Darvish was replaced after the single, leaving the game to standing ovation by a large Rangers fan base in Minute Maid Park.
Rangers manager Ron Washington commented earlier today on ESPN radio in Dallas that he truly felt that Yu could win the Cy Young award this year. He is off to a good start.
