As reporters wrote how Portland's Damian Lillard tied the game in the final seconds on a double-pump three pointer, Monta Ellis rose to the occasion with a 21-foot jumper to win it at the buzzer changing the story.

The Dallas Mavericks are on the road tonight to face a familiar foe in the Miami Heat. Only a two players on the current roster have great memories of American Airlines Arena from Game 6 in 2011 when the Mavericks won their first championship title. The most important player tonight for the Mavs to pull off a rare road victory is a player with a more recent memory of facing the Heat in the playoffs. Monta Ellis, last year with the Milwaukee Bucks, was swept by the Heat in the first round in the 2013 playoffs. Tonight he will have to be the key for a win.

The Dallas Mavericks season is nearly two weeks old and so far the newest collection of Mavs has tallied 4 wins to 3 losses. Of course, wins and losses dictate your fate and a 4-3 pace is certainly not one to be desired. But all things considered the Mavericks 2013-2014 season is off to an encouraging start, all things considered. Nine new faces and only four old ones that are rotation players (Dirk, Matrix, Vince, and Crowder) was a threat to overcome the talent the team possesses. Because chemistry can be your biggest weapon. (See: 2011 NBA Champions)

The Los Angeles Lakers never had a chance, as the Dallas Mavericks led from start to finish in a blowout victory 123-104. The Mavs are now 3-0 at home this season, equaling their last season's 3-1 start.

Since being drafted 40th overall in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, Monta Ellis has been out to prove he belongs with the elite group. His natural scoring ability allowed him to bypass college for the NBA. He spent a majority of his rookie season adjusting to the business aspect of basketball that is missing from playing for your local high school team. Now with the Dallas Mavericks and importantly head coach Rick Carlisle, Ellis is ready for stardom.

Monta Ellis and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed on a three year deal worth a minimum of $25 million and potential $30 million after incentives. The Mavericks needed an upgrade a guard and another scorer to complement Dirk Nowitzki, but Monta Ellis represents a bigger need for the franchise.

NBA: The Milwaukee Bucks offer to extend Monta Ellis, could this mean Brandon Jennings is out?

Monta Ellis has a player option for the 13-14 season worth 11.8 million. A lot of people believe that Ellis could possibly opt out and test the free agent waters. After learning the Bucks offered Ellis a 3 year 36 million dollar extension pending on if he opts in this summer it could make his decision a lot harder. Will he leave the money on the table and test the water or will he take the for sure thing and the extension?
