Very rarely in the sport of boxing these days does a card deliver from top to bottom like the one put on by Golden Boy and Leija-Battah.   The Showtime television portion of the show kicked off with up and coming and undefeated welterweight prospect, Keith “One Time” Thurman, fighting for his career’s first interim world title. Thurman (21-0, 19 KOs) faced off against a fellow undefeated warrior Argentine Diego Chaves (22-0, 18 KOs), who unlike most of Thurman’s opponents to this point, was a game fighter who didn’t back down from the heavy hitting Thurman.

by Kendrick Johnson Triple digit temperatures in Houston, Texas couldn’t keep an overflowing crowd of about 30,000 from showing up to Union Station at Minute Maid Park to see the Floyd Mayweather/Canelo Alvarez press tour up close in personal. There were so many fans not all in attendance where allow into the station, something not taken for granted by the pound-for-pound king.

The night started with Mayweather being led to the ring by Lil Wayne performing his hit song "No Worries". Indeed, there were no worries for The Money Team. Mayweather looked as sharp as ever and gave fans in attendance and viewing by pay-per-view a show worth admission. Guerrero has now suffered only his second loss of his career. This was the first fight of Floyd's 30-month contract with Showtime Boxing .

Photo credit Kendrick Johnson When a raucous crowd of 40,000 people are doing the wave all the way around the stadium 2 hours before a championship fight like they did this weekend at the Alamodome in San Antonio, you officially have an electric atmosphere, which was exactly the case when Saul “Canelo” Alvarez took on Austin “No Doubt” Trout. With a star studded crowd that included everyone from Super Bowl Champ Ray Lewis, IBF Light middleweight champion Ishe Smith, and the Golden Boy himself Oscar De La Hoya, the electricity in the air could be felt from San Antonio to Dallas. Combine this with the show-stopping performance by Texas native Omar Figueroa, whose first round knockout on the front end of the main event, had the crowd in a frenzy and the stage set for major fireworks. The pro Canelo crowd was 95 percent fully behind the Mexican born Alvarez. While there were a few but not many T-shirts in the crowd, which read something different: "Team Trout." ...

In shocking fashion, Dallas hometown favorite Charles Hatley, suffers his first boxing defeat by first round knockout. Tyner followed up on his promise to knock him out made at Friday's weigh-in at the Fairmount Hotel downtown. Hatley via twitter has confirmed a rematch set for October.

AIBA overturned Spence's loss to Indian welterweight Krishan Vikas late Friday night, five hours after the defense-minded Vikas had apparently clutched and grabbed his way to a 13-11 victory. After the American team protested the result, AIBA's competition jury reviewed the bout and ruled Vikas had committed nine holding fouls in the third round alone. He also intentionally spit out his mouthpiece in the second round, which should have resulted in at least four points of deductions.
