MAVERICKS WAIVE GUARD DEREK FISHER


DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks announced today they have requested waivers on guard Derek Fisher. Fisher was signed as a free agent by Dallas on Nov. 29, 2012.

Fisher (6-1, 210) averaged 8.6 points, 3.6 assists and 25.4 minutes in nine games (all starts) for Dallas this season.

The Mavericks’ roster now stands at 14 players.

STATE FARM ALL-STAR SATURDAY NIGHT TO FEATURE EAST VS. WEST FORMAT FOR THE FIRST TIME



-- An All-Star from Each Conference Will Serve as All-Star
Saturday Night Captain and Lead His Team During the Event --

-- $500,000 to be Donated to Charities Selected by the Event Captains, the NBA, and State Farm --

NEW YORK, Dec. 20, 2012 – For the first time, State Farm All-Star Saturday Night will feature a new format that pits the Eastern Conference against the Western Conference in a night of competition that will raise money for charity, the NBA and State Farm announced today. 

As part of the new format, points earned by each conference throughout the four All-Star Skills Competitions will determine the conference that earns the title of 2013 State Farm All-Star Saturday Night Champions.  Also, each conference will have an All-Star Saturday Night captain who will lead his team during the event.

In addition, NBA Cares and State Farm will make a joint donation of $500,000 as part of the event, with $350,000 going to the winning conference’s charities and $150,000 to the runner-up conference’s charities.  All of the charities will be selected by the conference captains, the NBA, and State Farm. The State Farm All-Star Saturday Night captains and the charities receiving donations will be selected and announced at a later date.

The free agent aquistion of Joe Johnson by the Brooklyn Nets paid off last night. Johnson had 28 points total, but it was his jumper at the buzzer of a second overtime that clinched the win.
