Welp during the finals I wrote a piece talking about the 2-3-2 format being a disadvantage for the teams with home court advantage. It almost came to a head game 6 when the Heat were down 3-2 on the brink of the defeat at home in Game 6. Who knows if they are in that position if the format is the same as it has been all playoffs?

I researched a fact I didn’t know and found out that the NBA Finals has had the 2-3-2 format since 1985. I personally didn’t realize the format was like this until 2008, did I have my head in the sand for that long? Probably but who does this format really benefit?

songwriter Sara Evans will perform the U.S. national anthem in front of a
global audience on Thursday, June 14, prior to Game 2 of The Finals between
the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat at the Chesapeake Energy Arena
in Oklahoma City.

The performance will be televised live on ABC in the U.S. and to a
worldwide audience in 215 countries and territories beginning at 8:53 p.m.
ET.

- Reaching Fans in 215 Countries and Territories in 47 Languages -

- Record 278 Million Fans Worldwide Following The Finals on Social Media -



NEW YORK, June 12, 2012 – The 2012 NBA Finals will have unprecedented global coverage, reaching fans live in 215 countries and territories in 47 languages on their televisions, computers, mobile phones and tablets.  A record 278 million fans globally will follow The Finals on social media. 

More than 277 international media members from 34 countries will converge in Oklahoma City and Miami. There will be 14 broadcast partners airing The Finals for the first time. 

Through NBA.TV (www.NBA.tv) fans outside the U.S., Canada, and China can access all Finals games live, along with extensive highlights and interactive statistics on their PC’s, mobile phones and tablets.   

The ‘NBA Game Locator’ Facebook application will drive Finals tune-in by detecting the origin of fans in more than 140 countries and territories and informing them of where and when games will be broadcast in their home market. The NBA has official accounts on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Tumblr, Google+, Sina Weibo and Tencent QQ.   Approximately 50% of the followers on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are international.   

The NBA has 11 international Facebook pages and 14 international NBA.com sites offering customized in-language content in markets such as Italy, the Philippines, Brazil, Africa, and India.   

For the first time, fans in China will have access to “Star Cam” presented by Lenovo on CCTV and its website CNTV.cn beginning with game 3.  Fans will be able to vote three times per game online to decide which player the isolated camera will focus on.  This will be part of CCTV’s 25th anniversary broadcast which will feature live commentary in Mandarin and customized sponsorship elements targeting Chinese consumers. 

Fans in China will have unprecedented digital coverage including live games on Sina.  Tencent will offer comprehensive behind-the-scenes coverage, bringing millions of online viewers in China behind-the-scenes in real time through the use of LiveU technology -- a wireless-enabled backpack that will allow a correspondent to report live from anywhere at Finals.  The NBA, the most followed sports league across social media in China, will provide coverage and insight in real time to 52 million followers on Sina Weibo and Tencent QQ. 

The NBA will have unprecedented Finals coverage in India.  Ten Sports will be onsite and all games will air live. A new trivia program, the “NBA’s Biggest Fan,” was conducted in India this season during NBA broadcasts on Ten Sports and two fans won trips to The Finals. Ten Sports will chronicle the fans’ behind-the-scenes Finals experience to complement their game coverage. Journalists from other top Indian outlets will also be onsite including Times of India, the Hindu, and Times Now.   

Al Jazeera will televise the games live for fans in the Middle East; fans in Africa will receive expanded coverage with three partners airing Finals for the first time: SABC1 (South Africa), Spectrum TV (Cameroon) and Multi TV (Ghana).     

In Europe, The Finals will be live in 48 countries and territories in 32 languages.  There will be expanded coverage through new partnerships with D-Smart and CNN Turk (Turkey), OTE Sport (Greece), and Viasat SportEast (Russia). 

The Finals will be live in 47 countries and territories and 4 languages throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. ESPN will bring The Finals to fans throughout the region and games will be live in movie theaters in seven Mexican cities through Cinepolis Cinemas.   

Fans throughout Asia will receive live coverage of The Finals and the league will host a series of viewing parties in the region.  In the Philippines, NBA Premium TV and Basketball TV will host viewing parties beginning with game four; ESPN Australia will host a game two viewing party for more than 100 guests; and WOWOW in Japan will host 300 guests for game two in conjunction with Basketball without Borders taking place in Japan from June 13-16.  NBA Global Ambassador Dikembe Mutombo, Sam Dalembert (Houston Rockets) and Vladimir Radmanovic (Atlanta Hawks) are scheduled to attend in Japan. 

Four international players will compete in The Finals: Oklahoma City’s Serge Ibaka (Congo) and Thabo Sefolosha (Switzerland) as well as the Miami Heat’s Ronny Turiaf (France) and Joel Anthony (Canada).

AMERICAN IDOL FINALIST JESSICA SANCHEZ TO PERFORM NATIONAL ANTHEM AT THE FINALS ON TUESDAY, JUNE 12

NEW YORK, June 11, 2012 – American Idol’s season 11 star Jessica Sanchez will perform the U.S. national anthem in front of a global audience on Tuesday, June 12, prior to Game 1 of The Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.   

The performance will be televised live on ABC in the U.S. and to a worldwide audience in 215 countries and territories beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET.
