2013 NFL Season Preview & Predictions

2013 NFL Season Preview and Predictions
by Statmark
I wrote my first NFL preview back in High School in 1991 which makes me a youngin to most experts and an old fogey to the whippersnappers. Regardless, I’ve been writing about football for a long time and have never made an effort to put it out beyond my inner circle of friends and to the masses. So we’ll see how this goes. When I did this post last year, I talked about the “inner hunger teams” of that came oh-so-close but fell just short are so frequently the most logical choice to go to the Super Bowl the following yet and conveniently enough, the 2011 Conference championship losers – the Ravens and 49ers – confirmed my statement by meeting in this past Super Bowl. So which two teams fall into that category this year? Ironically enough, those two teams BOTH fall into the NFC while the AFC has no one team that truly represents that “inner hunger”. The Patriots and Broncos (or more specifically, Brady and Manning) are perennial powerhouses that can’t replicate the desire of those teams that have never tasted the sweet sod of Super Bowl Sunday. However, in the NFC, we have both the Falcons and the Seahawks (and many might say the 49ers fall into that category as well, although as a general rule, the Super Bowl loser is LESS driven than a team that lost in the Conference Championship).

Super Bowl XLVII Preview

Super Bowl XLVII has history in the making, it matches up the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers. Maybe even more compelling it has the Harbaugh brothers duel. There are plenty of  story lines for this game, Ray Lewis's "last ride", as he is set to retire. Is Joe Flacco really ready for the "big stage" and if the young gun Colin Kaepernick is ready to put himself along with Joe Montana and Steve Young, as 49er quarterback greats. Along with these great story lines, this should be a great game too.

Harbough brothers make NFL history

The prediction of the Harbaugh brothers facing off against one another on SuperBowl XLVI has came to life. Two of the most outrageously talented head coaches in the NFL will be colliding in New Orleans on February 3rd. Both John and Jim have met once before on Thanksgiving day in 2011, where the

Does Everybody Have To Love Ray Lewis Now?

In Life, everybody makes a mistake or two. However, most people do not play professional football or make a mistake that changes a life. For Ray Lewis, he did have that mistake, he repented and supposedly changed, and is now being praised as an humanitarian, and a Hall of Fame football player. For some they are still heartbroken, and will never see what Ray Lewis stands for now. This story has been critiqued, and dissected a million times, but as I watch the playoffs, and see him being worshipped and put on a altar of greatness, I cant help but think about the families that didn't get to see their sons achieve greatness. I also cant help but to feel a little sick about polarizing a man who has brutal truth buried inside him.

It was Jan 31 2000 and Richard Lollar and Jacinth Baker were out late and doing what every young 24 and 21 year old does, having a good time. Ray Lewis and his entourage were partying too, at a posh nightclub after Super Bowl XXXIV. After leaving the nightclub Lewis, and some friends got into his limo when supposedly a liquor bottle hit Reginald Oakley, a music producer and former barber, whom Lewis met at University of Miami. We all know what happens next, a fight ensued and it left 2 men stabbed and left there to die. It is worth pointing out that Lollar was 24 years old, and his fiance was pregnant when he died. Baker was 21.Witnesses seen Lewis's limo speed away

NFL Weekend Recap: AFC and NFC Championship is set

After a NFL weekend for the ages, the conference championships are set for next weekend. Fans get an AFC rematch from last year and a NFC team gets another shot.

Falcons 30 Seahawks 28
The Atlanta Falcons and Matt Ryan finally exercise their playoff demons by defeating the hottest team in the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks in heart attack fashion. The jumped out to an early dominate lead over Seattle 20-0 at halftime. Russell Wilson finally got the offense going in the third quarter connecting with Golden Tate for a 29 yard touchdown. After the third quarter, the Seahawks went on a 21 point run to take the lead for the first time with only  :31 seconds left in the game. With the weight of Atlanta on his shoulders, Matt Ryan lead a 2 play scoring drive with the help of Roddy White and Tony Gonzales capped with a 49 yard field goal from Matt Bryant.

Coach Smith said in his post game comments, "Our quarterback is a special player. They call him Matty Ice, but I feel like we've got two Matty Ices. There's Matty Ice Ryan and Matty Ice Bryant."

This Falcon win was not easy, but again beating Seattle is easy at all. They played their way into the number one spot in the NFC and today they earned. This is Matt Ryan first playoff win in 4 attempts.

49ers 45 Packers 31
Reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers could not match newcomer Colin Kaepernick. The 49ers made a quarterback change after Alex Smith, the QB that took the 49ers to the NFC Championship last year, suffered a concussion. This was the game that it all made since.

"I didn't know how fast he was. Coming in I never really paid attention to it. But he is fast", says Green Bay Packer Charles Woodson.

Kaepernick rushed for 181 yards breaking a postseason NFL record for quarterbacks set twice ironically by Michael Vick when he played with the Atlanta Falcons. In his first playoff game, he ran for 2 touchdowns and threw for 2 touchdowns.

Colin Kaepernick's comments after the win, "Our receivers  our tight ends, blocked great outside, and our running backs were running hard, so it made it easier on me."

Ravens 38 Broncos 35
It took 2 overtime periods to decide a winner in a NFL battle that will be apart of two Hall of Fame career summaries, Ray Lewis and Peyton Manning. The story of this game starts with what is now being called the "Flacco Fling" as Joe Flacco hit Jacoby Jones for a 70 yard touchdown on 3rd and 30 with :31 seconds left to play.

"At that point you have to start taking shots." said Flacco. "You have to get a little lucky."

Peyton upstaging Brady-Eli Super Bowl rematch - Michael Silver, Yahoo! Sports

INDIANAPOLIS – Welcome to the home of Super Bowl XLVI, site of the epic rematch between Tom Bradyand Eli Manning – brought to you by a third quarterback who hasn’t even taken a snap this season.
Yes, sports fans, Peyton Manning is about to hijack the buildup to the Ultimate Game, thanks to the impending divorce between the icon and the franchise that happens to be hosting the spectacle.
Don’t even try to fight it: Even if Manning and Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay stop sniping at one other publicly for the next seven days, there’s too much conspicuous chest-puffing, too much intrigue and too many media folk in need of stories...
