Mavs Rookies on Display In Win Over Bucks, 112 - 102

Drew Hinton/Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks beat the Milwaukee Bucks to open the NBA preseason 112-102. Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo led all scorers with 25 points. Maxi Kleber led the Mavericks with 13 points.

After getting out to a 20-point lead thanks to returning Mavs Jalen Brunson and Trey Burke, it was the rookies chance to get their first taste of NBA basketball.

"Getting my feet wet really", said rookie Nate Hinton who led the rookie class with 8 points and 8 rebounds. "I haven't played since March. Excited to be here."

Unlike the NBA, college basketball came to a complete stop in March 2020. This rookie class of players have only been in practice for 5 days and now find themselves playing against superstars in empty arenas.

Hinton described sitting with his fellow rookie teammates for the first three quarters watching Giannis and the Bucks felt surreal, but once grabbed a rebound it felt like basketball again.

Josh Green played with the second unit for 16 minutes. Hinton, Tyler Bey, and Tyrrel Terry all played 15 minutes and all scored.

With the new rules allowing teams to dress up to 15 players, look for this new, young class of Mavs to make an impact.
