One Win From History: Martin Chases Its First Perfect Regular Season, Bell Plays for a Title, and Allen Eyes 10-0

RF Sports Radio branded title card with generic football icon: DFW high school football Week 11, one win from history

By Coach Terrence Booker, RF Sports Radio DFW high school voice

Coaches always tell kids to play for the name on the front of the jersey. This week, a handful of DFW programs get to play for their own history books, and most of the big ones are on Thursday night.

The facts

Arlington Martin (9-0, 6-0) already clinched the District 3-6A title with a 41-31 win over Arlington, and the Warriors are one win from the program's first undefeated regular season, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Martin plays Granbury on Thursday at Pirate Stadium. The Warriors have won district titles in six of the past eight seasons, per the Star-Telegram.

Hurst L.D. Bell (6-3, 5-1) clinched its first playoff spot since 2013 with a 64-10 win over Irving MacArthur, per the Star-Telegram. Now Bell faces HEB ISD rival Euless Trinity (7-2, 6-0) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Pennington Field. Trinity has clinched a share of the 8-6A title and wins it outright with a victory. Bell coach T.J. Dibble said the Blue Raiders last won a district title in 1988, and he called this "uncharted territory we haven't gotten to in a long time for this program."

Allen, No. 2 in Class 6A in the Dave Campbell's Texas Football/AP poll, can finish the regular season 10-0 against Prosper Walnut Grove on Thursday at Eagle Stadium, per VYPE. Walnut Grove (7-2) will likely be without quarterback Ashton Gosselin, who hurt his arm against Prosper. Prosper (8-1) has won five straight and effectively locked up second in 6-6A, per VYPE.

Elsewhere, Weatherford, 1-9 last season, can clinch a playoff spot Thursday against Arlington, and Mansfield Timberview (9-0) closes at Corsicana. Keller has lost three straight and needs to beat Haslet Eaton on Friday, per the Star-Telegram.

RF Sports Radio's take (opinion)

My take: Bell-Trinity is the game I would drive across the Metroplex to see. Two schools in the same district family, one that already owns its first title share since 2021 and wants it outright, the other chasing its first district title since 1988. That is what Texas high school football is about.

On Martin, perfect regular seasons are rare for a reason. The last week is when legs are heavy and the bracket is already in your head. The Warriors' coaches have to keep their kids focused on Granbury, not the playoffs.

And give Weatherford's staff some flowers. Going from one win to the edge of the playoffs in a single year takes buy-in from kids and families, and that is worth celebrating whatever happens Thursday.

What to watch next

Results start rolling in Thursday night. For last week's district picture, read our Nov. 2 Week 11 preview, and follow every Friday on our DFW High School Football page.

Radio question: which Week 11 game are you circling, Bell at Trinity, Martin's shot at a perfect regular season, or Allen's run at 10-0?
