Last Week of District, Real Stakes: Hebron at Braswell, Jesuit at Rock Hill and Martin's Unbeaten Push Headline Week 11

RF Sports Radio branded title card with generic football icon: DFW high school football Week 11 preview

By Coach Terrence Booker, RF Sports Radio DFW high school voice

Monday in North Texas means film, ice tubs and a whiteboard full of playoff math. Week 11 is the last week of the regular season for a lot of districts, and most of the big games are on Thursday, so coaches have one fewer day than usual to get ready.

The facts

Inside High School Sports DFW lists 71 games across North Texas on Nov. 5 and 6, with 38 on Thursday and 33 on Friday. Its Thursday headliners: Prosper Walnut Grove at 6A No. 1 Allen, Red Oak at 6A No. 2 North Crowley, Cleburne at 5A Division I No. 1 DeSoto, and 5A Division II No. 1 South Oak Cliff at Samuell.

The Dallas Morning News' Week 11 storylines say Arlington Martin is chasing an undefeated season and that Jesuit and Prosper Rock Hill meet for District 6-6A's final playoff berth. The News also reports Flower Mound must beat Denton Guyer to keep its District 5-6A playoff chances alive, and L.D. Bell can win a share of the District 8-6A title by beating Euless Trinity. All four of those games are Thursday, per Inside High School Sports DFW, with Martin at Granbury.

Hebron visits Denton Braswell on Thursday. The Denton Record-Chronicle reported last week that Braswell clinches a playoff spot with a win over Hebron or a Flower Mound loss. Hebron is coming off a 42-41 win over Flower Mound, and Krum can lock up at least the No. 2 seed with a win over Ponder on Nov. 6.

Allen already clinched the District 6-6A title and the No. 1 Division I seed, and North Crowley clinched District 11-6A at 9-0, per HS Football Nation. Friday's slate includes Rockwall at Rockwall-Heath and Duncanville at Skyline at 7:30 p.m.

RF Sports Radio's take (opinion)

My take: Thursday night is the real Friday night this week. Hebron at Braswell is the game I would drive to. Hebron's defense gave up 41 last week, and now it walks into a stadium where the other team can clinch at its expense. That is pressure.

Jesuit and Rock Hill playing for the last spot in 6-6A is the kind of game that makes this sport great. One team keeps playing, one turns in its gear. No second chances.

And Martin going for a perfect regular season deserves attention. Unbeaten is hard in any year in Arlington. Do not let Granbury be a trap.

For Allen and North Crowley, the job is simple: stay healthy. Play clean, get the starters out early if you can, and get ready for the bracket.

Radio question: which Thursday game has the most on the line, Hebron at Braswell or Jesuit at Prosper Rock Hill?
