Baylor Tops Colorado 23-13 in Big 12 Opener Behind Defense, Special Teams

Waco showed up for Big 12 Saturday — and the Bears left with a statement win.

Baylor beat Colorado 23-13 at McLane Stadium to open conference play. The Bears improve to 3-1 (1-0 Big 12); Colorado falls to 2-2 (0-1). Baylor has now held four straight opponents under 20 points — longest such streak since 2005.

DJ Lagway, back in the starting lineup, threw for 221 yards and two TDs. Rhett Armstrong hit three field goals, including a McLane record-tying 54-yarder. Special teams star turn: Palmer Williams averaged 50.4 yards per punt; Jayden McGowan returned seven punts for 130 yards. Defense posted five sacks and 13 TFLs; Travion Barnes led with nine tackles.

Lamar Odom: Flesh and Blood

by Matt Silverston Say what you want about Lamar Odom, and go ahead and criticize his lifestyle and the choices he's made, but I will never hesitate to stand up for those human beings who suffer from addiction and mental illness. Given that Odom's story as well as his whereabouts are uncertain and up-in-the-air at this time, the biggest issue at stake here is so much more than money, a reality TV drama, or a basketball hoop. His future livelihood as a healthy, spirited human being is under attack and in immediate jeopardy.
