Thursday Night, Winner Take All: Jesuit at Rock Hill, Plano East at Coppell, and a District Full of Bubble Games

RF Sports Radio branded title card with generic football icon: DFW HS Thursday, winner take all

By Coach Terrence Booker, RF Sports Radio DFW high school voice

Coaches, players, families: Thursday night in DFW is a playoff before the playoffs. Several districts will finish their business under the lights, and a few seasons will end before Friday even starts.

The facts

Dallas Jesuit (4-5, 4-3) visits Prosper Rock Hill (5-4, 3-3) tonight in a winner-take-all game for the final District 6-6A playoff berth, per People Newspapers. Allen, Prosper and Prosper Walnut Grove have already clinched. Jesuit is chasing an eighth straight playoff appearance after a 35-34 loss to McKinney. Senior Ty Daboub has 944 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns after a career-high 194-yard night in that McKinney game, per People Newspapers.

In District 7-6A, Coppell (7-2, 5-1) hosts Plano East (6-3, 4-2) at Buddy Echols Stadium, per VYPE. Plano East went 3-7 a year ago, and a playoff spot is not locked without a win because Richardson Berkner and Plano sit at 3-3 in district. Also Thursday: Red Oak at No. 1 North Crowley, Cleburne at DeSoto for SaRod Baker's final regular-season home game (1,218 yards, 19 touchdowns; school career rushing leader), and Prosper Walnut Grove against Allen at Eagle Stadium, per VYPE.

Friday's board still includes Fort Worth Carter-Riverside against Fort Worth Southwest, both 3-3 in District 5-4A Division I, and No. 2 Brock at 8-1 Mineral Wells after Brock outscored its last three opponents 195-7, per VYPE. As of Thursday morning, Jesuit-Rock Hill had not yet been played.

Also on Thursday's VYPE watch list: Lewisville at Little Elm, with Lewisville already locking up the District 5-6A title regardless of the result, and Euless Trinity against Hurst L.D. Bell in a rivalry that can reshuffle 8-6A seeding. These are the nights that decide who is practicing next week and who is packing the pads away.

RF Sports Radio's take (opinion)

My take: Jesuit-Rock Hill is the purest game in town. No computers, no tiebreakers left. Win and you keep playing. Daboub gives Jesuit a chance if the Rangers can protect the football.

Plano East at Coppell is the sleeper for seeding and survival. And if you can get to DeSoto, go watch Baker one more time at home. Passing Byron Hanspard on that career list is not an accident.

Bubble week separates programs that talk about culture from programs that actually live it on Thursday night.

What to watch next

Results start posting tonight; brackets tighten after Friday. For Wednesday's bubble preview, read our Nov. 4 Week 11 bubble preview, and follow every Friday on our DFW High School Football page.

Radio question: which Thursday night bubble game are you locked into, Jesuit at Rock Hill, Plano East at Coppell, or Red Oak's shot at North Crowley?
