Bi-District Week Starts Thursday: Hebron at Allen Leads Off, Duncanville Goes to McLane, and Aledo Meets Keller Central

RF Sports Radio branded title card with generic football icon: Bi-district week, Hebron at Allen leads off

By Coach Terrence Booker, RF Sports Radio DFW high school voice

DFW, the brackets are certified and the playoffs start Thursday. Saturday was district certification day across Texas, and now the first-round schedule is filling in. The opener is a heavyweight: Hebron at Allen on Thursday night.

The facts

Per HS Football Nation's bi-district breakdown, bi-district games run Nov. 12-14. Allen hosts Hebron at 7 p.m. Thursday in Class 6A Division I; the last time they met in a bi-district game, in November 2021, Allen won 59-30. Elsewhere in Region I of 6A Division I, Prosper visits Lewisville at Max Goldsmith Stadium, Plano East travels to Euless Trinity at Pennington Field, Coppell meets South Grand Prairie in Grapevine, Byron Nelson visits Arlington Martin, and Keller meets Arlington at Keller ISD Stadium.

In Region II, Duncanville, last season's 6A Division I runner-up after a 10-7 loss to North Shore, opens against Waco Midway at Baylor's McLane Stadium. Rockwall beat Rockwall-Heath 53-35 on Friday to take the top seed, sending Rockwall-Heath to Sachse and Rockwall to Wylie. In 6A Division II, Aledo meets Keller Central at 7 p.m. Friday at Eagle Mountain High School, Southlake Carroll and Weatherford will play at Dragon Stadium with the date and time still to be set, Denton Guyer faces Prosper Rock Hill, and North Crowley hosts Lake Belton at Crowley ISD Stadium. In 5A, Frisco Lone Star hosts Birdville on Thursday at the Ford Center, Highland Park hosts McKinney North, and DeSoto opens against North Mesquite.

Per the Texas Football and AP Class 4A schedule published by NBC 5, Dallas Lincoln (8-2) plays Fort Worth Southwest at 7 p.m. Thursday at Clark Stadium; Kennedale (9-1) plays Dallas Carter at 7 p.m. Friday at Kincaide Stadium; Dallas Kimball (8-2) plays Benbrook at 7 p.m. Friday at Loos Stadium; and Fort Worth Eastern Hills and Wilmer-Hutchins, both 8-2, meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Irving's Ellis Stadium.

RF Sports Radio's take (opinion)

My take: Hebron at Allen on a Thursday is the best way to open a postseason. No easing in, no tune-up, just two programs with history and a full stadium. Thursday games also reward the team that handles a short week, and that is a coaching test as much as a talent test.

Duncanville on a college field against a 9-1 Midway team is the game I would drive to. The Panthers were three points from a state title last December. They have the roster to make another run, but bi-district on the road is how upsets happen.

And watch the Division II bracket. North Crowley, a 6A Division I champion two seasons ago, now opens in Division II. Some coach in that bracket is not happy to see the Panthers.

Opinion: special teams and turnovers will decide at least three of these games. Talent is close in November. Details are not.

What to watch next

Watch for the remaining dates and times, including Carroll-Weatherford, plus Thursday's openers at Allen and the Ford Center. For Saturday's bracket and finale recap, read our Nov. 7 bracket and finale recap, and follow the metro on our DFW High School Football page.

Radio question: Hebron at Allen or Duncanville at Waco Midway, which DFW bi-district game is the must-see of the opening round?
