Wings Offseason: Is Jessica Shepard the Playoff Co-Star Dallas Needs?

RF Sports Radio branded title card with basketball icon: Wings offseason question on Jessica Shepard as playoff co-star

Wings fans, the regular season was a breakthrough — the playoffs raised a fair question about the frontcourt.

High Post Hoops' Elaine Blum points to Jessica Shepard's series against Golden State: 12 points and 12 rebounds in Game 3, but just 4 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 turnovers combined over the first two games. Blum asks whether that was the Valkyries' defense or a sign Shepard isn't the playoff riser Paige Bueckers' co-star needs to be.

Her regular season was a different story. Blum notes Shepard jumped from 8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists as a Minnesota backup in 2025 to 14.5, 11.1 and 5.3 in Dallas, joined Angel Reese as the only players to average a double-double, posted six triple-doubles, made her first All-Star team and won Most Improved Player. The knock is defense, with Alanna Smith in and out and Awak Kuier unable to cover for everything. Jose Fernandez, after Game 3: "We only get to this point because of Paige."

This is analysis, not a reported move — keep up with the Dallas Wings all offseason. Radio question — build around Shepard's playmaking, or find a defensive post?
