Stars Hit the Road to Buffalo Thursday; Hockey Fights Cancer Night Set for Oct. 13 vs. Avalanche
Victory Green, the first win is in the books. Now the Stars take it on the road.
Dallas (1-2-0) visits Buffalo (2-1-0) on Thursday at 7 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. Central, per the AP preview. The Sabres come in off a 3-2 overtime win over Minnesota after a 50-23-9 season, while the Stars went 50-20-12 last year and scored 273 goals. AP lists Matt Duchene (lower body), Cameron Hughes (upper body) and Harrison Scott (undisclosed) as out for Dallas. Buffalo lists Josh Doan as day to day and has Jason Zucker and goalie Alex Lyon among its players out.
Monday's 5-0 win over San Jose came straight from the coach's game plan. Glen Gulutzan wanted more pucks and more bodies at the net, and he got it. "It was really a simple recipe, and nice to see they were rewarded for it," Gulutzan said, per the Stars' Mike Heika. Dallas outshot the Sharks 26-13 and out-attempted them 66-24. One thing still missing, as Yahoo Sports notes: a power-play goal. The Stars are 0-for-8 with the man advantage.
Off the ice, the club announced its annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night for Tuesday, Oct. 13, against the Colorado Avalanche at American Airlines Center, in partnership with Baylor Scott & White Health. Five-year-old Kaylin Lee, who rang the bell Sept. 23 and is now cancer-free, will meet the team at morning skate and ring the bell at center ice. The night includes an autographed lavender jersey auction, mystery pucks and 150 donated community tickets, with proceeds supporting pediatric cancer research and VNA Children's Haven.
