SportsDayHS Midseason Top 100: Allen Takes No. 1, Timberview Jumps 22 Spots, Duncanville Slides
DFW, the midseason power rankings are out, and Friday's big one just got bigger.
The SportsDayHS staff at The Dallas Morning News updated its top 100 Dallas-area teams Wednesday morning, and Allen (5-0, 2-0 in District 6-6A) moved up from No. 4 to No. 1 after what the staff called "a truly dominant start." Waxahachie is No. 2, North Crowley is No. 3, Frisco Lone Star is No. 4 and Denton Guyer rounds out the top five. Coppell (6), Lewisville (8), DeSoto (9) and Prosper (10) are also in the top 10.
The biggest climber up top is Mansfield Timberview, up 22 spots to No. 7 after a 5-0 start that includes a Week 2 upset of Denton Ryan. Prosper Walnut Grove jumped from No. 58 to No. 14, with the staff admitting it overlooked Walnut Grove after quarterback Hayes Hackney transferred to No. 13 Argyle. Unbeaten Arlington Martin (5-0) enters at No. 20 after its Week 5 upset of Aledo. Going the other way, preseason No. 1 Duncanville falls to 11th, Southlake Carroll drops from 5th to 15th and South Oak Cliff slips to 12th.
The staff says the list factors in classification, last year's record, historical success and preseason ranking, and isn't a strict "who beats who." Still, Friday's MaxPreps Game of the Week puts SportsDayHS' No. 3 North Crowley at No. 2 Waxahachie, both 5-0, at 7 p.m. CT at Lumpkins Stadium, streaming on MaxPreps' YouTube channel. MaxPreps says Waxahachie is averaging 53.4 points a game and North Crowley 37.8.
Catch every Friday on DFW High School Football. Radio question: is Allen the right No. 1, or does the winner in Waxahachie take the top spot?
