Second Place Is on the Line in Waxahachie: Duncanville vs. the Indians Headlines a Week 9 Slate Full of District Fights

RF Sports Radio branded title card with football icon: Duncanville at Waxahachie headlines DFW Week 9

By Coach Terrence Booker, RF Sports Radio DFW High School Football voice

DFW high school fans, we spent the last two weeks talking about North Crowley. This week, the most interesting game in District 11-6A does not involve the Panthers at all. It is the fight for the spot right behind them.

The facts

Duncanville visits Waxahachie on Friday, Oct. 23, at Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium in a battle for sole possession of second place in District 11-6A, per VYPE's Week 9 games to watch. Both teams are 3-1 in district play, and both district losses came to North Crowley. Duncanville is 4-3 overall and Waxahachie is 6-1. Duncanville leads the series 5-1, and its defense has allowed 22 points total during a three-game win streak, led by Chris Jackson Jr.'s 47 tackles. Waxahachie quarterback Jerry Meyer III is a South Carolina pledge, per VYPE.

Last week, per GM Sports Media, Duncanville beat Crowley 28-15 and Waxahachie routed Red Oak 48-3.

Elsewhere Friday, per VYPE: DeSoto (5-2), winner of five straight, visits Cedar Hill (2-5); Dallas Jesuit, tied for second in District 6-6A, visits an Allen team that has scored 70 points in each of the last two weeks; Lewisville, 3-0 in District 5-6A, visits 7-1 Flower Mound; and Colleyville Heritage visits Argyle, which puts a seven-game win streak on the line. On Thursday, unbeaten Mansfield Timberview (7-0) hosts Ennis in a battle of 4-0 teams for first in District 7-5A Division II, and McKinney Boyd visits 6-1 Prosper.

North Crowley (7-0) faces Skyline on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., per MaxPreps.

RF Sports Radio's take (opinion)

My take: Duncanville-Waxahachie is the game I would drive to. The Panthers have been so dominant that people forget the playoff bracket rewards the No. 2 seed too. Seeding decides who you see in the second and third rounds, and in this region that matters.

Duncanville's defense is the best story nobody is telling. Twenty-two points allowed in three games is elite at any level. Waxahachie's offense with a Power Four quarterback is the right test. Whoever controls the line of scrimmage wins this one, and I lean on the team with the better defense on the road.

My call: Duncanville 24, Waxahachie 20. DeSoto handles Cedar Hill, and Allen keeps rolling against Jesuit. That is a prediction, not a report. If Meyer gets time to throw, flip my Waxahachie pick.

What to watch next
