Oettinger Blanks Sharks 5-0 as Stars Finally Break Through for First Win
Victory Green, exhale — the goals showed up, and Otter slammed the door.
Dallas beat San Jose 5-0 Monday at American Airlines Center for its first win of the season. Jake Oettinger made 13 saves for his 17th career shutout, per NHL.com. Miro Heiskanen opened the scoring with a backhand at 18:51 of the first, Joel Kiviranta made it 2-0 early in the second, Jamie Benn finished a between-the-legs touch pass from Jason Robertson, Robertson buried a wrist shot at 16:30, and Mikko Rantanen closed it out in the third.
Benn and Robertson each had a goal and an assist, Roope Hintz had two assists, and it was the first goal of the season for Benn, Robertson and Rantanen. Dallas outshot San Jose 26-13. The Sharks played without captain Macklin Celebrini, a late scratch with a lower-body injury; Yaroslav Askarov made 21 saves. The Stars (1-2-0) pushed their point streak against San Jose to 10 games (9-0-1).
Next for the Dallas Stars: at Buffalo on Thursday. Radio question — was this the breakout, or just a short-handed Sharks team?
