NBA Camps Open as 2026-27 Tip-Off Tripleheader Nears on Oct. 20

League-wide reset mode: media days are wrapping, training camps open Sept. 29, and Opening Night is on the calendar.

American Express NBA Tip-Off 2026 tips Tuesday, Oct. 20 on NBC/Peacock with a tripleheader: Boston at Detroit (3 p.m. ET), defending champion New York Knicks hosting Philadelphia — LeBron James' 76ers debut night in that building — at 7 p.m. ET, then San Antonio vs. Oklahoma City at 9:30 p.m. ET in a Western Conference Finals rematch vibe.

Preseason tips Oct. 3 (Raptors-Heat in Quebec City among early tips). Christmas Day again brings a five-game ABC/ESPN slate, including a Finals rematch Knicks-Spurs. Emirates NBA Cup Group Play runs Friday Cup Nights from Oct. 30 through late November, with Knockout Rounds on Prime Video in early December.

For Dallas listeners: the Mavs are already in camp early ahead of China Games — but this is the league-wide picture. New coaches, star landings, and a loaded national TV map. Basketball season is basically here.

Lamar Odom: Flesh and Blood

by Matt Silverston Say what you want about Lamar Odom, and go ahead and criticize his lifestyle and the choices he's made, but I will never hesitate to stand up for those human beings who suffer from addiction and mental illness. Given that Odom's story as well as his whereabouts are uncertain and up-in-the-air at this time, the biggest issue at stake here is so much more than money, a reality TV drama, or a basketball hoop. His future livelihood as a healthy, spirited human being is under attack and in immediate jeopardy.
