Griner is in China playing with the Beijing Great Wall team during the WNBA offseason. This is her second season playing in China. As the team made their way to their bus, a man with a knife attacked them cutting Griner on the elbow.

He then chased them on the bus and stayed there until he voluntarily left, only to return covered in blood. He was then arrested.

Griner's agent, Lindsey Colas, says that it was a minor cut that did not require stitches because she had on a heavy winter coat. Another team member was reportedly stabbed, but the knife did not penetrate her skin.

She went on to play in the game that night.
