The Dallas Stars are looking to snap a 6 game loosing streak ahead of the cold front.  They started off with lots of energy in the 1st period , although the defense still looked a bit shakey as a group.  Tyler Seguin started the scoring off for the night at 8:03 in the 1st period with  his first Goal of the night.  The 2nd Goal by Seguin was a great 3 on 3 play by the Stars.  Jaime Benn made a great move in the middle, making a 180 to shield the defender from the puck as it slides under his stick to a waiting Seguin.  Slapshot to the back of the net, and the Stars lead 2-0.  2:46 left in the 1st period the Sharks score their 1st goal due to sloppy defense in front of the net to James Sheppard.  Stars will have to work on a better defensive plan to protect the net after a shot.  Shots on Goal, Stars 12 to Sharks 8.

The Stars began the 2nd period with a fireball of energy and slightly better mid ice defense.  The Stars show a lack of discipline in front of their own net, which causes them problems on rebounds.  No look passing behind the net, not making sure there is an Star behind Kari Lehtonen. Usually the smart teams pick up on this and begin streaking towards the goal, picking off passes and making shots.  Leaving any Goalie exposed to all kinds of danger.  The Stars also have a habit of bringing 4 men up across the Offensive Blue line. Leaving a Defenseman solo with a 2 on 1 or 3 on 1.  4:32 left in the 2nd period Tyler Seguin scores his 3rd Goal of the night as the fans covered the ice in Hats. This will help the Stars as they are in the bottom of the NHL on converting Power Plays into Points. Jason Spezza played in his 700th game and with his assist on Seguin's Hat Trick made his 700th point.  First Hat Trick of the season, giving anyone with a ticket stub 20% off a new Stars hat!!  Shots on Goal
Stars 12, Sharks 9

Period 3 this season has turned out to be the Stars Achilles Heel, giving up more than 40% of their points to opposing teams.  They are also 50% in all OT games.  The first Power Play went to the Sharks  with 16:10 left in the 3rd period. 5 seconds in the Power Play, Patrick Marleau scores his 5th power play goal of the season, bringing the Sharks within 1. 13:22 left in the 3rd period the Sharks tie the game up with a break away goal by Brent Burns off of sloppy net play by the Stars.  Stars get a 4 on 3 Power Play at 13 mins left attempting 2 shots during that time by Jaime Benn and Seguin with no results.  Sloppy passing continued through the 3rd period, allowing the Sharks to take the lead(4-3) on another break away goal by Brent Burns. Sloppy defense and puck control continued throughout  the period.  A skirmish erupted in front of the Sharks net resulting in a Penalty that will be argued for a High Stick.  The Stars decided to Empty Goal, leading to the 5th Goal of the night for the Sharks and the game.  The Stars continue to win on the road and leave the Hometown fans waiting for a Win streak to sell out the AAC.

In short.  The Stars need to work on a few things..
1. Better puck control during breakaway opportunities .
2. Work better with 3 men attacking with a trailman for rebound shots or defense.
3. Practice more Shots on Goal and rebounding with control
4. Play Tougher!
