ACTIVE FAITH SPORTS ALL-STAR WEEKEND FAITH & FAMILY EVENT RECAP

Many events took place over the past few days in Houston, for All-Star Weekend, but none made the impact that Active Faith did with its Faith and Family Event. On Saturday, February 16, 2013, Active Faith Sports brought NBA and NFL players from various teams, alongside Grammy-winning Christian rapper Lecrae and label mate Tripp Lee, in an inspiring panel discussion about how their faith has played a role in their careers. This wasn’t a group of guys quoting their favorite Bible verses or sharing memories of Sunday church services. The panelists shared very intimate experiences surrounding each of their very unique walks of faith, including Justin Forsett who spoke on remaining a virgin until he was married.

Other athletes and celebrity guests that were in attendance include Allan Houston (New York Knicks Executive), Maurice Evans (NBA Retired), Etan Thomas (NBA Retired) and Andre Ward championship middleweight boxer).

The event was hosted by Second Baptist Church and, in addition to the panel discussion, featured a concert by Lecrae, a high-flying performance by AcroDunk, and an appearance by Rockets mascot Clutch and the Rockets cheerleaders. Attendees brought canned goods and other non perishable food items, which were later donated to the Houston Food Bank, and were entered to win prize giveaways from the panelists, including an autographed Jeremy Lin jersey and other autographed items. As if that wasn’t enough, everyone who purchased a ticket to this event also received a free ticket to a Houston Rockets regular season game.
At the conclusion of the event, after a very stirring personal testimony and invitation to Christ by Lecrae and Second Baptist Church’s Youth Pastor Michael Head, over a dozen people made the decision to give their lives to Christ.

In addition to the Faith and Family Event, Active Faith showed off its athletic apparel line at the Windsor Village Celebrity Basketball Game on Thursday, February 14th, in a fashion show during their halftime break.

About Active Faith
Active Faith Sports (AFS), established in 2010 by Lanny Smith during a period of injury rehabilitation while in the NBA Development League, provides a way for Christians to showcase their faith while being fashionable and athletically functional. AFS is multifaceted and is comprised of an ownership team of various pro athletes across several sports. While one branch is dedicated to providing premium athletic wear and sports apparel, the other branch is a ministry that uses the platforms of sports and physical fitness to witness and reach others based on the motto “In Jesus Name I Play”.
