Wurzburg To Worldwide: How Dirk Became Dirk! Premieres Sunday, Dec. 23
Fox Sports Southwest will televise a documentary on Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki’s rise from a lanky German teenage phenom to an NBA superstar.
Wurzburg To Worldwide: How Dirk Became Dirk! premieres Sunday, Dec. 23 at 9:00 p.m. CT.
The one-hour documentary, shot in Europe during the Mavericks’ preseason trip to Berlin and Barcelona, chronicles Nowitzki’s life and basketball career from his hometown of Wurzburg, Germany to playing in the NBA in Dallas.
Hosted by FOX Sports Southwest Dallas Mavericks announcer Mark Followill, Wurzburg To Worldwide: How Dirk Became Dirk! is told through candid interviews with Nowitzki, friends and family and his mentor Holger Geschwindner.
The documentary tells the story of how Geschwindner discovered Nowitzki as a 16-year-old in a summer youth league game in Wurzburg and trained and developed the awkward teenager into an NBA MVP and 11-time All-Star using a unique philosophy comparing basketball to jazz.
Wurzburg To Worldwide: How Dirk Became Dirk! follows Nowitzki’s NBA career from his rough rookie season in 1999 to his greatest success leading the Mavericks to the 2011 NBA title. Nowitzki shares how he overcame losing to the Miami Heat in the 2006 NBA Finals and being eliminated in the first round in 2007 to lead his team to the NBA championship.
It includes behind-the-scenes footage of the rock star welcome Nowitzki received when he returned home during the preseason with the Mavericks to play in Berlin.
