Rice Owls defeat the Air Force Falcons 33-14 to win 2012 Armed Forces Bowl



Pregame:
- Both teams warm-up on the field and fans start to pour in on cool day in Fort Worth.  The Air Force visiting sideline is adorned with servicemen in uniform and the Rice sideline is has their band decked in suits in ties.

Now we await the paratroopers entrance onto the field...

- Quick Notes about today's game:

  • Air Force is playing in its 6th bowl in Texas and is 2-2-1
  • Rice is playing in its 7th bowl in Texas and is (4-2). This will be their first bowl in Fort Worth
  • Air Force is the youngest football program of the 3 major service academies starting in 1955
  • Rice is 6-6 after winning 5 of their last 6 games, best finish in the regular season since 2008
1st Quarter (Owls 7 - Falcons 0):
- Rice kicks off to Air Force, quick 3 and out. Owls start at midfield but 3 and out for them also.
- Rice starts to move the ball, 8 play 24yd drives, but ends with another punt
- Falcon QB Deets with a 17yd keeper to get Rice it's 1st first down

- Fumble on the next play, ball Rice Owls
- Pass Interference call on Air Force give Owls 1st and 10 on 22yd line

2nd Quarter (Owls 7 - Falcons 14)
- Falcons get their first turnover, fumble by Owls
- Call is overturned by review, Rice ball
- Another fumble by Rice gives the Falcons the ball afterall
- Well placed timeout erases 3pts off the board for Rice
- Falcons Kale Pearson keeps it on an option play for a 9yd rushing TD to equal the score 7-7

- Fumbled kickoff is recovered by Rice
- McHargue takes a big hit on the next drive and replaced by Jackson
- After review, fumble called on the play and Falcons take over
- Falcons convert on 4th and 1 to keep drive alive
- Cobb scores on 3rd and goal, Falcons 14 Rice 7

- 15yd pass interference on Falcons gives Owls easy 1st down
- Owls lose the 15yds on a personal foul next play...
- D. Jackson, new QB of Owls, doing a good job of moving the ball through the air. Until, fumbled pitch gives ball back to Falcons on the 5yd line ending the 1st half. Missed opportunity there...

3rd Quarter (Owls 14 - Falcons 14)
- D. Jackson throws a 22yd pass to Taylor for a TD. Taylor's second TD today. Rice 14 Air Force 14

- Ross goes in for 2yd rushing TD to put Rice ahead 21-14
