Fairleigh Dickinson 84, Prairie View 70
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP) -- Sekou Harris scored 25 points, including five 3-pointers, as Fairleigh Dickinson beat Prairie View A&M 84-70 on Saturday in the South Padre Island Invitational finale for both teams.
Harris, a freshman, was 5 of 7 outside the arc, part of an 11-of-22 performance on 3-pointers for the Knights (2-3). Lonnie Robinson added 16 points and Melquan Bolding had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Carl Blair, whose buzzer-beating layup gave Prairie View (3-5) a 42-40 victory over Navy on Friday, led the Panthers with 18 points, and Jordan DeMuynck chipped in 15. Prairie View made just two of its 13 3-point attempts.
Prairie View led 43-36 at halftime, and the teams traded leads in the second half before an 11-2 run, capped by a Mustafaa Jones 3-pointer, put Fairleigh Dickinson up 76-65 with 3:46 to play. The Panthers couldn't get much closer the rest of the way.
Middle Tennessee 79, Texas Southern 52
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- Shawn Jones scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, as Middle Tennessee dominated Texas Southern 79-53 Saturday night in nonconference action.
Marcos Knight had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Neiko Hunter chipped in with 13 points for the Blue Raiders.
Middle Tennessee (4-1) led 18-12 with 12 minutes left in the first half and extended it with a 23-8 run to close it.
Jones finished the first half with 15 points and six rebounds to help Middle Tennessee take a 41-20 lead into halftime.
Texas Southern (1-5) cut the lead to 19, 22-41 early in the second period, but Middle Tennessee answered with 6 straight points to push the lead to 26, 48-22. The Tigers never made it a contest.
Lawrence Johnson-Danner came off the bench to lead Texas Southern with 14 points, and Kyrie Sutton and Raymond Penn had 10 points apiece.
LSU 75, Mississippi Valley State 50
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Shavon Coleman and Johnny O'Bryant III provided double-doubles to lift LSU to a 75-50 victory over Mississippi Valley State Saturday in a nonconference matchup.
Coleman poured in 16 points and tacked on a career-high 11 rebounds, while O'Bryant III garnered 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers.
LSU (4-0) has won all four of its games under first-year coach Johnny Jones. It marks the first time since the 2008-09 season that the Tigers have started a season 4-0, when the program won its last SEC championship.
After misfiring on 10 of its first 11 field-goal attempts, LSU went 10 of 15 from the floor over the final 12-plus minutes of the opening half. The Tigers turned an early five-point deficit into a 33-23 halftime advantage.
Mississippi Valley State (0-4) was led by Davon Usher's 16 points. Blake Ralling added 15 points on five 3-pointers for the Delta Devils.
Washington State 66, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 38
PULLMAN, WA -- Brock Motum and Royce Woolridge each scored 14 points and Dexter Kernich-Drew added 10 as Washington State beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
UAPB didn't have a player score double-figures. Terrell Kennedy had nine points to lead the Lions (1-4).
The game was close after 20 minutes as WSU only led 23-16. However, the Cougars blew the game open in the second half, outscoring UAPB 43-22.
WSU shot 47.9% (23-of-48) for the game, including making all 12 freethrow attempts. The Cougars also hit 8-of-25 from 3-point range. Meanwhile, UAPB shot 30% (15-of-50) from the field, including 4-of-18 from behind the arc.
