After scoring ten runs and looking like world beaters in a win over Cleveland on Friday, the Yankees crashed back to earth as their bats were silenced in a 3-0 shutout.

Before the start of the game, Paul O’Neill was honored with a plaque in Monument Park for all teh great seasons he had with New York as part of that great championship teams back in the mid to late 1990s.
Jose Ramirez got the scoring started for the Indians as he clubbed his first major league home run, a two run shot into the first row of the right field seats giving Cleveland a 2-0 lead. Ramirez would end up having a perfect day at the office, going 3 for 3.
Starting Indians pitcher Corey Kluber cruised through the first three innings before giving up his first hit to Jacoby Ellsbury who doubled down the left field line in the 4th inning. Kluber(13-6) had a terrific start for Cleveland as he struck out ten while only giving up four hits.
In the top of the 7th inning, Michael Brantley smacked his 17th home run of the season off the right field pole extending Cleveland’s lead to 3-0. at the time.
Twice New York had opportunities to score with runners on first and second but failed to deliver each time.
In the bottom of 6th,after consecutive singles by Derek Jeter and Jacoby Ellsbury, Kluber charged back to strike out the side.
Jeter collected hit 3,431 which moved him into 6th place on the all-time hits list ahead of Honus Wagner.
Brett Gardner led off the 8th inning with a double and Ellsbury was hit by a pitch. However, Scott Achison worked out of the jam whiffed Carlos Beltran and Chase Headley to end the inning.
In the 9th inning, New York went down 1-2-3 as Cleveland’s close Cody Allen recorded his 15th save of the season.
Brandon McCarthy (4-1) sustained his first loss as a Yankee. In the loss, McCarthy pitched 6 1/3 innings while yielding two runs on seven hits but striking eight Indians hitters.
In the 3rd inning, a Brantley line drive rocket hit McCarthy in the right foot but after several warm up tosses remained in the game.
Collectively the Yankees struck out 15 times and were 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position.
Unfortunately in other news, New York placed catcher Brian McCann on the 7 day disabled list with a concussion that McCann suffered while taking a foul tip off the facemask in Friday night’s win.
Austin Romine was recalled from Triple-A. First baseman Mark Teixeira missed his 3rd straight game with an injured pinkie. Meanwhile infielder Brian Roberts was released.
On Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Carlos Carrasco (3-4) will oppose Hideki Kurroda (7-7).
