MLB: The Yankees sign Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka

New York Yankees win the bidding war for Masahiro Tanaka.

The Yankees used the money they saved by not signing star secondbasemen Robinson Cano to get Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.

The Yankees opened up the check book for Tanaka. They wrote a check for $175 million in total, giving Rakuten Golden Eagles a $20 million posting fee and Tanaka receives 7 years for $155 million. Hey, Tanaka I'm your American cousin feel free to send me a couple dollars chief.

Tanaka has an option to opt out of the contract after the 4th year. Depending on how good he pitches it is a high possibility he will opt out so he can cash out a few years earlier. He's only 25 years of age so their should be a lot of life left in that arm.

Last year, he posted a 24-0 record with an 1.27 ERA. He's been playing for the Golden Eagles since 2007 and has a record of 99-35, with an 2.30 ERA, 1,238 K's, 53 complete games, 18 shutouts in 175 games.

Hopefully he lives up to that contract that's a lot of coin. You can never have enough pitching, I wonder if Darvish wishes he would've waited he only got $60 million over 5 years when he came over a few years ago?
