After returning early from his Achilles injury suffered last season, Kobe Bryant suffers another setback this season. Reports out of L.A. suggest he will miss six weeks with a lateral tibial plateau fracture in his left knee.
The injury apparently happened during the Lakers road win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night. He did not have an MRI until today that showed the damage. Bryant recently signed an extension with the club for the tune of $48 million over two years. He also received a lump sum payment to finish out his contract for $28 million this season.
Many believe his early return back to action may have caused him to favor his leg causing unequal weight distribution. Derrick Rose in his return from knee injury was victim of a similar circumstance that ended his season. Bryant went down in the third quarter of the game, but told reporters after that he felt he just hyperextended it some.
Bryant took to Twitter as the news broke with the hashtag #BrokenNotBeaten
For the Lakers, the injury to Bryant only completes their backcourt further. Steve Blake, Steve Nash, Jordan Farmer, and even Jodie Meeks are nursing their own injuries.
