Down to the wire: Rangers acquire Dempster from Cubs at deadline
Dempster, 35, has gone 5-5 with a 2.25 ERA in 16 games/starts for the Cubs this season. His 1.038 WHIP this season ranks 6th in the majors and 3rd in the National League.
This is the second deal with the Cubs today, after the Rangers acquired backup catcher Geovany Soto from Chicago this morning.
The Rangers will hold a press conference to discuss today's transactions at 4 p.m. CT. Watch it live on texasrangers.com.
5 Reasons why Dwight Howard should be a Laker
- It is tradition - Throughout NBA history the biggest of the BIG MEN have made their way to Los Angeles to wear purple and gold. Mikan, Jabar, O'neal, and Chamberlain seem to come to mind.
- He already lives in LA - Dwight Howard spends his off-season cruising, eating, and living it up in LA. That is going to be impossible if this deal does not get done.
- NBA Titles - No doubt he has a better chance with the Lakers to get a few titles than with Brooklyn, Houston, and Orlando. It is a Laker tradition.
- Steve Nash & Kobe Bryant - Howard will finally be around veteran guys that can absorb some of the spotlight. Their leadership would help him fully develop into a global star.
- Heir to the Throne - Kobe plans to retire in two years. By that time, Dwight's star power should be in another galaxy. Perfect timing to be the next all-time great "Laker" in the franchise's rich history.
Trade Talk Rumors About Howard Going To Rockets.
Houston has reconstructed a trade that would work for both squads. With the Magic having to reconstruct their whole team, the Rockets will possibly be bringing in four other Magic players as well. The Rockets have already released Luis Scola to clear more cap space so the trade can happen.
The trade involves the Rockets having to take over the contracts for Glen Davis, Jason Richardson, Chris DuhonOn, and possibly Hedo Turkoglu from the Magic, to obtain Dwight Howard. In return the Magic will be acquiring Kevin Martin, Patrick Patterson, Marcus Morris and Chandler Parsons, from the Rockets as well as their first-round pick that they got from the Toronto Raptors in a previous trade. In order for all this to happen, the Magic have to decide if it's worth going through with this blockbuster trade and rebuild their team.
Do you think the Orlando Magic should go through with this trade and rebuild their whole starting 5? Do you think they should look for other offers before they decide on going all the way with this deal?

STEVE NASH IS A LA LAKER; 3 YEARS $25 MILLION
Nash, a two-time NBA MVP, will replace Ramon Sessions who opted out of his final year to pursue free agency. This will definitely help the Lakers stay title contenders in the Western Conference.
Nash turned down a lucrative deal from his home country Toronto Raptors of $36 million for the same 3 years. Lakers acquire Nash through sign and trade with Phoenix using a trade exception from Lamar Odom's deal.
Nash was also being pursued by his old team the Dallas Mavericks, NY Knicks, and Miami Heat also.

Jason Terry feels a Mavs deal for Dwight Howard is too good to pass up
"Next day and a half is going to say a lot" commented Jet after a Mavs win last night. "Say we win it this year. Your not going to bring eight guys back....same position as now".
The position the Mavs are in all rides on free agency in the upcoming offseason. Mark Cuban as not offered any players, including Jet Terry, a contract extension.
"Until Dwight makes a decision everybody is going to think that....I keep watching the ticker seeing the Mavericks still have a chance to get him. Why would you pass up that opportunity?"

Would Phil Jackson come back to coach Lakers with Howard, Paul and Bryant?
If you are the Lakers organization then you have to be on board with Jackson returning. Gutting the team for Paul and Howard is an all in move. If your going all in then go with a proven coach, not Mike Brown. Phil could only coach the home games and the playoffs if health is an issue. Phil ultimately will have the final decision. If he wants to come back nothing could really stop him. Is Dr. Buss really going to tell Phil Jackson and Laker Nation that Mike Brown is better?
