CHRISTY BELLA JOINER JOINS AUTHOR STEVE NAGY TO RAISE CANCER AWARENESS!!!...AN INSPIRATIONAL STORY!

By far, this is one of the most important and most fulfilling stories that I’ll ever write. It even takes precedent over writing about my beloved Dallas Cowboys. Coincidently the special lady that I’m writing about IS a huge Cowboys fan. However for this time at least, the main focus won’t be about Super Bowl Rings. Our focus today is about a deadly disease, cancer, and the lady who is helping to prevent it. May I introduce model, actress and spokeswomen, Christy Bella Joiner.

“She is one of the best people with a caring, down-to-earth and humble personality.” I can certainly attest to that, especially after Christy e-mailed to me some heart-warming experiences about her life. As per Christy, it was Larry David who helped her to get involved in SU2C (Stand Up 2 Cancer). From there she started to research more and more, leading to the formation of her own team. She calls it, “Team Christy Bella”. From there Christy decided to join the “Make a Wish” foundation. This organization grants wishes to children with life-threatening diseases. She recalled one special child to me during our conversation.

This particular child requested an Autographed Modeling Picture of Christy. What stood out to her was the fact that she was the number one choice above all else. Christy stated to me, “If I had one wish and was fighting cancer as a CHILD, I would wish for something really cool like “Tinkerbell” or a DISNEY character..Why me??? What if he was not happy!” Christy told me of a solution that she came up with.

To ensure the lads jubilation, Christy sent her entire portfolio, with the exception of any sexy pics. (LOL) of course! This was despite the tremendous cost to her. What she sent included advertisements, magazines and fashion shoots. About a month later Christy received a call from the child and his mother. They were ECSTATIC with joy and appreciation! However Christy felt more like SHE should be the one to be thanking them. The gifts were sent prior to his operation, as both the mother and child touched Christy’s heart and soul. They still keep in touch as the child continues to recover. No doubt that Christy’s inspiration will help tremendously!

“Make a Wish Foundation has become a passion of mine just as my (Christy) endless fight against cancer. Charity work means the world to me, Stephen.” Today the “Entourage” star maintains a private life, since the loss of her “hero” to prostate cancer. Christy’s “hero” is her father. She has turned down offers to be in television and movies, stating that her main passions are to make a difference in the world and music, music?? Oh yeah, Christy is an accomplished Classical Pianist too. One of her most impressive credentials was being able to play Beethoven on the piano at the young age of five. She briefly stopped playing after her father’s passing, but since her birthday, she recently starting playing again. Now she’s playing Chopin, as no doubt her father is “orchestrating” from heaven!

In closing, Christy wrote to me, “I’m Honored to be a part of this!” So am I “Bella”, so am I!

Cowboys get an impressive win over the Giants 24-17; Romo looking good

After a lackluster preseason plagued by injury and arrests, the Cowboys open the season with a bang. Everything that seemed to hold this team back last year; like bad defense at the end of games and an offensive drop-off in the second half, seemed to be a thing of the past. Kevin Ogletree has to be the most added player in fantasy football today!

Playing in the Red: The New NBA

As a Dallas Maverick fan, I have to wonder why teams like L.A., Miami, New York, and even Brooklyn can acquire the players that they have under the new collective bargaining agreement, yet a team that has operated well above the salary cap since Mark Cuban took over can not. Those teams have made a decision to operate in the red and a NBA championship is worth it.

The new agreement was supposed to level the playing field by requiring a much higher luxury tax for teams over the salary cap. What has happened is the plane between contender and non-contender has grown exponentially. At the start of the 2012-13 season, the number of teams with a legitimate chance of winning it all is few and far between. Struggling franchises are finding it hard to attract top free agents and additional revenue streams to compensate for increasing their payroll. The original thought that low salary cap teams will be the go-to destination if a superstar wants to make big money was totally wrong. Lebron is not going back to Cleveland, Dwight is not going to Charlotte, and Chris Paul is not requesting a trade to Milwaukee. The NBAPA forgot that teams have low salaries for a reason; the owners don't want to spend the money.

The league on the other hand is different situation. David Stern and company have decided to help the big market teams get bigger. Recently, the league office allowed teams to place advertisements on game jerseys. An ad on a Knicks or Lakers jersey will be quadruple the price of an ad on a Timberwolves jersey. The Knicks and Lakers also have local TV deals that help balance financial spreadsheets. They also have merchandise sales blow smaller market teams out of the water. The bigger the market, the bigger luxury tax you can afford to pay.

To Mark Cuban's credit he knew this was going to happen before the new agreement was signed. There are reports that he wanted to have a hard cap, meaning that a team can't go over the cap and pay a luxury tax. Imagine the parity of the NBA if that was true. Instead of 5 teams with a chance to win, there would be 20. Cuban has made a good decision to let the dust settle. For the first time his franchise will operate under the cap which gives him great flexibility to do anything. His new challenge is to play the cap game and win another title using the flexibility to his advantage. He already has proven the other way works.

Five Things to Watch: Dallas Cowboys vs Oakland Raiders

1. Tony Romo - will he start the preseason with the same urgency has Jerry Jones has stated he has to win now.
2. Rob Ryan's Defense - in his second year with new players, will we finally see why he is a good defensive coordinator.
3. Offensive Line - can Romo be protected.
4. Wide Receivers - with no Bryant and Austin, who will make a strong case to be the 3rd option.
5. Running Game - is Murray really the answer.
