Big 12 Football Preview, Rankings, Predictions

Can Trevon Boykin lead the TCU Horned Frogs to a national championship?

Will a Big 12 team get a shot at a national championship this year? Will any team have a shot to go undefeated?

The Big 12 has seen better days, but the emergence of TCU and Baylor has given the conference a better starting position than last year. Make no mistakes about it...TCU and Baylor are not UT and OU.

Even if TCU and Baylor have one loss, the weakness of the lower tier teams could hurt them once again. If the consolation is another shootout game to take ownership of the Big 12 then let's roll.

The UT and OU rivalry still has enough substance to produce high drama. UT's non-conference schedule this season is enough to satisfy the Longhorn faithful.

There will be suprises...there will be upsets...there will be college football!

Top 5 Players to Watch

Trevone Boykin, QB, TCU

Shawn Oakman, DE, Baylor

Samaje Perine, RB, OU

Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor

Emmanuel Ogbah, DE, OSU

Team Rankings

1. TCU (12-0)

If last college postseason taught the Horned Frogs of TCU anything, they learned that only an undefeated season will give them the opportunity win a championship. The Big 12 conference learned that as well. They have the perfect schedule to accomplish this by playing their toughest road games at the end of the season; in Norman against the Sooners and home against the Baylor Bears.

Quarterback Trevone Boykin, from West Mesquite High School, has a legitimate chance to be a Heisman Trophy candidate. Their defense has some new names, but should be ready for the challenge.

Biggest Game: Friday, November 27th vs Baylor

Tough Loss: None

 2. Baylor Bears (10-2)

The Bears have a favorable schedule also. Their toughest road game is going to Ft. Worth to face the Horned Frogs. The loss of Bryce Petty is significant, no matter how good Seth Russell appears in scrimmages.

Art Briles is returning 17 starters back from a one-loss team. But something tells me that a trap road game against Oklahoma State start back-to-back losses.

Tough Loss: @ TCU, @ Oklahoma State

3. Oklahoma (9-3)

Bob Stoops, and all of Oklahoma, will be relying on the legs of Heisman candidate Samaje Perine this season. There are still some questions at quarterback under new offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley. Will is be the arm of Baker Mayfield or the dual-threat of Trevor Knight.

The secondary is the biggest concern for the Sooner defense, especially against the scoring of the Big 12 elite teams.
