Brandon Spike's second stint with the Pats has quickly come to an abrupt end.

The now former Patriots linebacker was released today after reports surfaced that an abandoned Mercedes Maybach was found and was registered under Spike's name.
That seems like a cause not to cut him from the roster but you dive into the story more and find out that an accident report created in 2009 when a Nissan Murano was hit from behind in a hit and run incident on the same stretch of highway where the Maybach was found abandoned by Spikes.
The investigation by police is still ongoing and they are still trying to see if these two incidents in anyway possible are linked to one another. Here is officially what the police said on this matter:
"The investigation will seek to determine whether there is any connection between the reported incidents,” State police spokesman David Procopio said. “No connection has yet been definitively established"
Though police are not sure yet their is anything to be connected with these two incidents, that did not sway the Patriots organization it looks like as they almost immediately cut spikes after word about this got out and was brought to their attention.
You cannot blame them for making this move especially in this era where the public's appetite for seeing athletes who got caught up in off the field drama or incidents is at an all-time low. The perception of the Patriots would have taken an even more of a steady drop after the already damaging deflate gate that left a mark on the franchise that will never fully be wiped off clean.
New England this time around took a leadership role and got rid of Spikes before he could become the latest distraction for the franchise to have to deal with in the public eye.
Though Spikes is a talented linebacker that could have made a solid contribution to the Patriots defense for this upcoming season, the team is already pretty solid at that position in terms of depth and can easily go and get another linebacker that is cheaper and will not cause a headache to the team with off the field distractions.
This era continues to teach athletes that you have to be careful with your choices off the field especially because one foul up and in this era of social media and 24 hour news cycles, it can go national and bring down not only their reputation but their team's reputation.as well.
