Camden Yards in Baltimore will be empty for the Orioles vs White Sox game. |
Due to the demonstrations in Baltimore, the Orioles vs Chicago White Sox game will be played without access to the public. For the first time in the over 100 year history of the America's past time, the game will be played with no fans. Why play the game at all?
by Rodney Fisher"All of the decisions in Baltimore were driven first by the desire to insure the safety of fans, players, umpires, and stadium workers..."
That is the best way MLB commissioner Rob Manfred could describe the decision to play the game with giving access to fans to view it in person. The office also decided to play the Orioles' weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.
Seems strange to even play the game at all.
After postponing the games on Monday and Tuesday to be rescheduled for a double-header on a later date, why take the action of having a closed door game.
This will be first time in history that baseball in the major leagues has been played in front of nobody.
When the demonstrations took place in Los Angeles in 1992 after the Rodney King verdict, the LA Dodgers postponed four games.
MLB gives the impression that amid civil turmoil and outrage that the game must go on at all costs. What makes this social issue less important than the others to continue to play a fan-less game in a multi-million dollar ball park.
Again I ask...why play the game at all?
