The New York Yankees ran into one of the hottest pitchers in the American League Tuesday night as Detroit Tigers starter Rick Porcello (15-8) tossed eight stellar innings while yielding just two runs on nine hits as Detroit snapped the Yankees winning streak at 5 games with a 5-2 victory.

Porcello tied teammate Max Scherzer for most wins with 15. Joe Nathan pitched a scoreless ninth to register his 28th save of the season.
Brandon McCarthy(5-3) labored through 6 1/3 innings,yielding a season high five runs as a member of New York on nine hits.
The Tigers started their scoring early in the second inning by loading up the bases. Detroit made McCarthy really work hard and forced him to go deep into counts.Rajai Davis showed that patience at the plate to walk and force in a run.
The Tigers added to the lead in the third as Miguel Cabrera led off with a double, advanced to third on a ground out by Victor Martinez. Next stepped up J.D. Martinez who sharply singled by a diving Stephen Drew driving in Cabrera to make the score 2-0.
The Yankees had a scoring opportunity in the fourth inning. Brian McCann singled to right field as did Carlos Beltran. However, a force out play from Martin Prado and pop up by Drew to left field ended the inning.
New York finally got on the board in the fifth inning as Jacoby Ellsbury drilled a solo shot, his 12th of the year into the right field seats cutting the lead to 2-1.
Detroit responded back by breaking the game open in the sixth inning. A leadoff single from Victor Martinez followed by a double off the base of the left field wall by J.D. Martinez which put runners on second and third. Nick Castellanos promptly lined a single into center field bringing in Victor Martinez for the Tigers third run of the game. Alex Avila grounded into a double play which allowed J.D. Martinez to cross home plate giving Detroit a 4-1 advantage.
Ellsbury took Porcello deep again in the eighth inning, a towering blast to right field to make the score 5-2. It was his third round tripper in two games. Derek Jeter reached on an infield single but McCann grounded into his second double play of the game to end the threat.
On the night the Yankees were 0 for 3 with runners in scoring position while leaving five runners on base.
