Zack Greinke Returns |
On April 11 in a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres, Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin was hit by a pitch thrown by Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke. In retaliation to what he thought was an intentional attack, Quentin bull-rushed the mound, leading to a benches-clearing brawl between the teams that left Greinke with a broken left collarbone.
Greinke was told that he would be out for eight weeks as he needed surgery, but just one month after the brawl Greinke was back in action. In a rehab start at single-A, Greinke allowed six hits, eight runs (only three earned) and struck out four in 4 1/3 innings.
That was enough for Dodgers manager Don Mattingly to call Greinke back into major league action in a start against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night.

In his return Greinke got the win while pitching 5 1/3 innings, giving up five hits and one earned run. It was an impressive showing by the $147 million pitcher. He'll gradually work his way back to full strength, in the meantime the Dodgers will be hoping his return can spark some life into what has been a pretty dismal season in Los Angeles.
