Image
Mavs Nation, the scoreboard in Macao said Houston 135, Dallas 117. The postgame notebook said more about where this team is headed. Dallas Sports Journal's Grant Afseth, in a story also carried by Yardbarker, had Dusty May talking about Cooper Flagg after Flagg scored 17 of his 19 points in the second quarter and sat the whole second half. "Just to see how competitive he is... when the lights are on he moves differently," May said. "Just to see him in the game, his potential was through the roof." He also spelled out what the job is: " This is a big responsibility to help him on his evolution into being one of the best. " May said Dallas isn't running much offense for Flagg yet and is still learning "the play after the play." The shot chart shows what May wants. Dallas fired 51 threes and was 12-of-41 from deep through three quarters, per DSJ. Houston won the paint 42-34 and second-chance points 25-15, with 10 offensive rebounds in ...

Cowboys Mini-Bye Triage: Lamb's Quad Is Just a Bruise, Guyton's X-Rays Negative as Jerry Eyes Another Defensive Trade

Image
Cowboys Nation, the morning-after news out of The Star was better than the game. Now the question is what Jerry does with the next month. Brian Schottenheimer met with reporters Friday, and the injury news from Thursday's 24-16 loss to Tampa Bay came back mostly clean, per NBC Sports' ProFootballTalk. CeeDee Lamb, who was in and out of the game on the final drive, has a bruised quadriceps . Left tackle Tyler Guyton's back X-rays were negative after he sat out the last offensive series, with Broderick Jones filling in. Joey Porter Jr., who arrived at AT&T Stadium sick and was made inactive, is feeling better. The one real concern is safety Alijah Clark, who has a hamstring issue and is day-to-day. That matters because P.J. Locke and Jalen Thompson are already on injured reserve. The calendar helps. Dallas doesn't play again until Oct. 18 at Green Bay, so the Thursday game buys three extra days of rest. Schottenheimer plans to use them to look at everything. ...

Sanata Hopper's Historic Night Gives Colorado's Defense Something to Build On Before Utah

Buffs fans, the 29-7 final against Texas Tech looked ugly. The film on the defense looks a lot better. Colorado's athletics department released a piece Thursday on defensive lineman Sanata Hopper, and the numbers are wild. Against Texas Tech, Hopper had 10 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and five quarterback hurries, all career highs. CU says he's the first player in program history with at least five tackles for loss and five hurries in the same game. Citing PFF, the school says he's also the first FBS defensive lineman to post those numbers since 2020, a span of almost 10,000 games. The Buffs had 12 tackles for loss as a team, and Hopper was in on half of them. The unit as a whole showed up. Texas Tech came in averaging 36.2 points a game and had just 12 through three quarters, with the game 12-7 heading into the fourth. It was still a one-score game with 7:10 left before the Red Raiders scored two late touchdowns. Tech finished with 134 passing yards , its lowest of ...

Five Bears, Five Rushing Touchdowns: Baylor's Backfield by Committee Gives TCU Plenty to Study

Image
Sic 'em. Everybody's talking about DJ Lagway's arm, but the Bears' run game is a big reason this offense is humming. SI's Brad Teague points out that five different Bears have scored rushing touchdowns through five games. Dawson Pendergrass leads the backs with 81 carries, followed by Caden Knighten with 49, Michael Turner with 28 and true freshman Ryelan Morris with 22. Baylor is almost perfectly balanced, with 201 rushing plays and 203 pass attempts. The big plays have come from the guys lower on that list. Morris broke a 63-yard touchdown run in Tempe that put Baylor ahead for good, and Knighten's 75-yard touchdown run made it 45-16 in the second half and sent Arizona State fans to the exits. Quarterback Nate Bennett has a 25-yard touchdown run against Louisiana Tech, and Lagway added an 11-yard score against the Sun Devils. Teague notes Lagway has spent most of the season dealing with a right ankle sprain. Turner hasn't scored yet, but Teague says ...

Wings GM Curt Miller: 'Not Satisfied,' Defense Is the Growth Area, and Bueckers Is a 'No-Brainer' All-WNBA Pick

Image
Wings fans, the GM is happy with the season and still wants more. Curt Miller talked to The IX Sports on Wednesday, with the semifinals going on without Dallas, and he called the year "incredibly successful." He has a case. The Wings went 27-17 after going 10-34 in 2025 and 9-31 in 2024. Paige Bueckers finished sixth in MVP voting, and Jessica Shepard was named Most Improved Player, all with a first-year coach and late-season injuries to multiple starters. "Really excited about what we did, but not satisfied," Miller said. "We had a lead with under two minutes to go in an elimination game, and could be playing tonight." Miller gave Jose Fernandez a lot of credit for his first WNBA season. Dallas finished fourth in offensive rating and led the league in assists per game. He was even louder about Bueckers: "Our franchise will continue to say that Paige Bueckers is a no-brainer, All-WNBA first team player, and we don't need validated by other p...
