Peyton Manning`s Place in History

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

Peyton Manning is one of the most intriguing quarterbacks to ever play the game. He`s not flashy, fast or cocky. He`s just a flat out winner!

The football Gods have ordained him a champion, a leader, and a four-time MVP. One might say that he is one of the smartest quarterbacks to play the game. Manning's key to success is the bond he has with his receivers. Every off season he, along with his receivers and tight ends, work out with the play book and develop hand signals. Defenses are too busy listening to “Omaha Omaha Omaha” at the line to every pay attention. The hand signals directs the receivers to certain spots on the field. This is one of the main reasons why Peyton has a spot in history.

Let`s take a look at his accolades and records Peyton obtained in his 18 year career.
  • He has the NFL touchdown passing record with 509 and counting.
  • Single season passing touchdown record with 55 in 2013.
  • Most passing yards with 5477 set in 2013.
  • Most games throwing for 300+ yards with 86.
  • Most passing touchdowns in a game with 7 in 2013.
  • Most games with a passer rating higher than 105.92.
  • Most games with a perfect passer rating of 158.3:5.
  • Most seasons with 350+ completions with 9.
  • Highest yards-per game, season 342.31 in 2013.
  • Most seasons with 4,000+ yards with:13.
  • First quarterback to beat 31 franchises.
  • One of two quarterbacks to beat all 32 teams along with Brett Farve.

He is cemented in history as one of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game. He is a first ballot Hall of Famer and legend. Peyton Manning will always be remember as, “The Sheriff!”

Super Bowl 50: Barbershop Talk with DaVinci

Barbershop Talk.. Super Bowl XXII and Super Bowl 50

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

I was getting a haircut at my cousins barbershop the other day and all they wanted to talk about was the Super Bowl and the turn out. Reg “The Body” said, “That Cam Newton was good but was too green to win the big one”. Derek added, “Peyton Manning will go out on top of the mountain like he should”. This old man pouring coffee turned and said, “ History is bound to repeat itself”. The shop got quiet and The Body asked, “What do you mean Mr. Smith?” While pouring sugar and adding his creamer, Mr. Smith explained his statement. “Super Bowl XXII”. January 31, 1988 in Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego, California.

The Washington Redskins led by a dynamic black quarterback beat the Denver Broncos 42-10. The Super Bowl MVP was Doug Williams. Denver was favored by 3.5 points. After John Elway and the Broncos went up 10 points in the 1st quarter. The Redskins scored the next 35 points. He explained the intricate parts of every phase of the game. He talked about special teams and how important return punts and kick offs gave the offensive team an edge. He spoke about the similarities between John Elway and Peyton Manning at this juncture of their careers. But then he dissected Cam Newton and Doug Williams. Both sets of QB`s mirror certain phases, but not on the head as one would say. But the quarterbacks are so important. This Super Bowl will be based on both defenses. It`s not the Cam versus Peyton match up that everyone is making this out to be. Mr. Smith gave us a history lesson talking about the key players, running game and key defensive stand made by both teams. The Redskins changed the dynamics of the game by playing defense which made the offense click. Chose your side and cheer for your team. The defense will be the catalyst for the winner of the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl 50: Peyton Manning vs Cam Newton

Peyton Manning Versus Cam Newton

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

We can easily say that Peyton Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play. He`s a 4 time NFL MVP and hes the record holder of many records for quarterbacks. Cam Newton on the other hand is the young brash undisputed leader of the new wave of NFL QB`s that`s taking over the league. Let`s take at look at the differences between the two.

#18 Peyton Manning, 6`5”, 230 pounds in his 18th season from Tennessee

Career numbers 266 games played, games started 265. Passes completed 6125 on 9380 attempts with a completion rating of 65.3%. He has 71940 passing yards and 539 touchdowns. He was MVP in 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2008. He was Super Bowl MVP in 2006. Pro Football Hall of Fame 2nd team All 2000 team in 2013. He played in the pro Bowl 14 times and made All Pro 7 times. We can go on and on about the accomplishments of Peyton Manning but what counts now is today not yesterday. Can Manning go out on top by winning Super Bowl 50 against the Panthers or will he show his mediocre skills under center. You have a lot of Manning waiting for “The Sheriff” to take Carolina`s “Superman” to the woodshed.

#1 Cameron Newton, 6’6”, 260 pounds in his 5th season from Auburn

Career numbers: 78 games played and 78 games started. Passes completed 1440 on 2419 attempts with a 59.7% completion rating. He has a total of 18263 with 117 touchdowns recorded. In 5 years he has rushed for 3207 yards on 599 carries. 43 rushing touchdowns with a 72 yard carry in 2012. Cam will rewrite the history books in his time. Cam has issued in the new wave of quarterbacks and theres no stopping “The Prototype!”

Super Bowl 50 will display a bit of the old and new, something borrowed and something blue (or teal). I can`t wait until February 7th showdown between these two guys. Take your pick it`s eith Peyton or Cam!

Super Bowl 50: Broncos Defense vs Panthers Defense

Broncos Defense versus Panthers Defense

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

It was once said that, “Defense wins championships!” If you take a look back at both teams defenses from the first game of the 2015-16 season. They were bound to bump heads. Who has the best defense between the two teams? Those questions will be answered in 2 weeks. The Bronco defense has household names and Defensive Coach Wade Phillips hold the keys to the gate. The Panthers are young, physical and wreckless and they are not afraid to lay the wood on opposing offenses. Lets take a look at both defenses.

The Denver Broncos

“Hells Gate” will open during the Super Bowl. Aqib Talib and Chris Harris, Jr. Will cover the no named receivers from the Panthers offense. Malik Jackson, Brandon marshall, DeMarcus Ware, and Von Miller will look to feast on Cam Newton. This defense was mentioned in the same breath as the `85 Bears! Denver`s defense is ranked number one across every defensive category in the league. The defensive line has 8 lineman and 6 linebackers that are interchangeable. So the pass rush from the Broncos won`t miss a beat. One the outside the corner backs plays on islands, no over the top coverage just man to man. You can believe that the Panthers won`t run the score up on them. This will be a very interesting game.

The Carolina Panthers

Roman Harper, Charles Johnson, Jarred Allen, Luke Kuechly and Josh Norman are just a few names that comes to mind when you talk about one of the most dynamic defenses the NFL has seen in a number of years. Luke Kuechly is the driving force between the numbers. He has changed the landscape of linebackers in the league. He along with Thomas Davis will give Peyton Manning the blues because of the weak Offensive line of the Broncos. It`s been mention that the Panthers defense looks like the 1970`s Dallas Dooms Day Defense. I can`t wait along with the football fanatics everywhere see these two dynamic defense square off on the last football Sunday of the season.
