Football is back. I speak for everyone when I say that too many Sundays have gone by without the NFL on our television screens. I suppose you could say that preseason is football, although with the frequent use of second and third string sides, one never feels that the season is truly underway until the first game of the regular season arrives.

Barr has a quick twitch and explodes from the line off scrimmage. Offensive Lineman struggle to hold him at bay due to his ability to utilize his hands well and shed blocks. Most Offensive Lineman also have a problem with him around the edge. Not only does Barr burst off the line of scrimmage, he is also rather fast. Barr dominates when he bends the edge due to his graceful balance and quickness.

BYU Comes Out On Top In Poinsettia Bowl.

For the most part, this year's San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl was a very boring game to watch for most viewer's. But it was late in the fourth quarter when BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy stripped the ball from the San Diego State quarterback, Adam Dingwell and jumped on it for a BYU touchdown, which put them ahead 10-6.
On the first play of the next drive for San Diego State, Dingwell fumbled the snap which was then recovered by BYU's Jordan Johnson and ended in a BYU touchdown. After the second touchdown in just 17 seconds, BYU's momentum was sky high as there defense forced five San Diego turnovers, and four of them being in the fourth quarter.
With just 6:09 left in the in game, Kyle Van Noy intercepted Dingwell's pass and returned it to the house for Van Noy's second defensive touchdown of the game and put away SDSU for good. Van Noy was named the defensive MVP after the game. The BYU head coach, Bronco Mendenhall said, "Kyle is a fantastic football player, and changed the game for us and was the reason we won the game."

Arkansas-Pine Bluff will be playing for a place in history as well as its first conference title Saturday when the Golden Lions face Jackson State in the SWAC Championship Game at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala.

The Golden Lions (9-2, 8-1 SWAC), champions of the West Division, will register the first 10-win season in school history with a victory.

“That’s definitely a carrot that’s in our sights,’’ UAPB coach Monte Coleman says.

The Golden Lions won nine games in 1994 while playing as an NAIA independent and again in 2006 when they made their first appearance in the SWAC Championship game and lost to Alabama A&M.  They also had a nine-win season in 1990, but the NAIA forced the Golden Lions to forfeit those victories because of rules violation that resulted in the football program receiving the death penalty.

Sat, November 24, 2012
NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Dray Joseph threw for five touchdowns as Southern University overcame an early deficit and held on late to defeat Grambling State 38-33 on Saturday in the Bayou Classic.

Grambling trailed 38-20 early in the fourth quarter but cut into Southern's lead with two touchdowns. The Tigers reached Southern's 41-yard line, but Grambling quarterback Frank Rivers was sacked and fumbled to end the game.

The game marked the end of disappointing seasons for both teams.

Southern (4-7, 3-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference) fired coach Stump Mitchell two games into the season and expects to replace interim coach Dawson Odoms. Grambling (1-10, 0-9), the defending league champion, ended the season with one victory for the first time since 1941 -- the school's inaugural year under legendary coach Eddie Robinson.

Grambling took a 14-0 lead, converting a pair of fumbles by Southern into touchdown passes by D.J. Williams.

Joseph finished with 287 yards passing.

Fan Poll: Is Terrell Suggs coming back too early?

Losing Ray Lewis is a big deal for the Baltimore Ravens defense. If you add in the injury to Ladarius Webb, you can easily understand the eagerness of the team to bring Terrell Suggs back from injury. Suggs playing this Sunday will the be the quickest return of any athlete to competition that has suffered an Achilles injury. No doubt he is a freak of nature, but let's be serious here. The players sometimes have to be saved from themselves at times. Is he return now not the best option long term?

Ray Lewis may retire at the end of the year. Suggs is next anchor and face of the defense. There is no need to risk the future for now.

The Ravens travel to Houston to take on the Texans this Sunday.
