Photo credit SI.com Commissioner Roger Goodell announced future NFL Drafts will take place in May, a move aimed at extending the offseason through the lull period that invariably emerges after the drafts conclusion. The NFL once was a September-February business, covering half the calendar year. Efforts to make the NFL a year round business have paid extraordinary dividends. Even casual fans are drawn into the annual NFL draft, which was moved to Primetime to accommodate TV audiences. The NFL Combine has lure, with fans talking 40 times & hot QB prospects around the water cooler. The merger of sports & entertainment was inevitable, but under Commissioner Goodell it's catalyzed significantly. 

by Chad Jones What NFL pregame show are you watching? Photo credit Vimeo  NFL pregame shows are losing viewership. The entrenched networks ESPN, Fox & CBS face new rivals- NFL Network & 'New Media'. Some of the attributes for the decline is fans having other priorities before kickoff like religious obligations, kid's sports games, brunch with friends, etc. Attending Church or cheering at your kids soccer games are not new American ideals. So let's address the major pregame shows for their substance.  

Chris Broussard got himself in hot water today on ESPN's Outside The Lines program. The topic was Jason Collins coming out publicly that he is gay. Chris, a devoted Christian, stated his personal views based on his faith. Due to public pressure for his comments he issued the following statement via Twitter: "Today on OTL, as part of a larger, wide-ranging discussion on today's news, I offered my personal opinion as it relates to Christianity, a point of view that I have expressed publicly before. I realize that some people disagree with my opinion and I accept and respect that. As has been the case in the past, my beliefs have not and will not impact my ability to report on the NBA. I believe Jason Collins displayed bravery with his announcement today and I have no objection to him or anyone else playing in the NBA." More details to follow
