Cowboys Not First Choice For Jerry

When oil wildcatter Jerry Jones paid his way into the NFL in 1989 it wasn't his first attempt to own a pro football team.

The new Hall of Fame owner of the richest sports franchise in the world was not always "Mr. Dallas Cowboys". In 1966, after graduating from the University of Arkansas, Jones made a bid to buy the San Diego Chargers for $5.8 million. The team is now #21 on the Forbes NFL list with a valuation just over $2 billion with a "B".

Jones had promises from investors in Missouri to secure the deal with AFL team, but his dad Pat Jones told him not to do it. This was pre-NFL-AFL merger and teams were losing money like crazy to stay afloat. Once the merger went through, the Chargers sold for $10 million.

What if Jerry never listened to his dad's advice?

The speculation was that he would have moved the Chargers to St. Louis although southern California was a premium market.

Cowboy fans should be grateful Jerry took someone's advice early on.

Training Camp Report: Cowboys Considering Manziel for Backup?

At the end of the first week of Dallas Cowboys training camp, things seem to have started where they left off at the quarterback position. Tony Romo is not on the field. The projected backup quarterback, Kellen Moore, is out for most of the season. And an untested rookie QB, Dak Prescott, is taking reps with the first team. The uncertainty under center remains a constant.

Plan A was to acquire Nick Foles, but he shunned "offensive guru" Jason Garrett to play under the coach that drafted him, Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs. For a player that forced his way out of the LA Rams because he wants to be a long-term starter, backing up the injury prone Romo would seem to be the better option. But playing in cold KC behind a younger Alex Smith appeared better.

Plan B? Sources within the organization have told us that they are "considering many options." When asked directly if those options including a Dallas resident, former Heisman winner quarterback with a fondness for the dramatic named Johnny Manziel, the reply was "we are considering it."

Truth be told, the Cowboys will need to wait until the NFL finally deals out the expected suspension to Manziel for his off the field criminal behavior. Once that is handed down, do not be surprised to see Johnny Football throwing the ball with the second team.

New Updates:

Stephen Jones has denied that Johnny Manziel will be an option for the Cowboys.

Manziel has been spotting in Los Angeles this week. A few miles south of training camp in Oxnard, California.

We are also being told that the $2 million fine from the NFL for the Cowboys having three current players suspended may deter them from pursuing Manziel.

Stay tuned...

Dallas Cowboys Start OTAs: Inside Look

Tony Romo hands off to his new running back Ezekiel Elliott as OTAs begin at Valley Ranch. Photo credit Star-Telegram

D210TV takes you behind the scenes as the Dallas Cowboys start OTAs before training camp begins.

Jerry Jones Ready To Embrace Life After Romo

Jason Garrett, Charlotte Jones, Jerry Jones, and Stephen Jones discuss the 2016 NFL Draft picks.

Jerry Jones has always stated that Tony Romo will be his quarterback for the next few years, but the recent draft shows his acceptance to prepare to move on.

by Rodney Fisher

The Dallas Cowboys started the draft with two main goals:

  1. Take Ezekiel Elliott with the 4th pick.
  2. Trade back into the first round and take quarterback Paxton Lynch.
After a proposed trade with the Seattle Seahawks was trumped by the Denver Broncos to draft Lynch with the 26th overall pick, the Cowboys set their sites on Michigan State QB Connor Cook or Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott. The selected Prescott in the fourth round.

When contemplating how to select the potential Romo-replacement, they sought the advice of legend Roger Staubach. His advice was to focus on the intangibles like leadership and self-confidence. Prescott was a team captain for the Bulldogs since he showed up on campus.

Jerry, the ultimate oil wildcatter, has made his bet. Even if Prescott turns out not to be the heir apparent, Jones has committed to begin the search. Romo's multiple injuries took their toll on the entire fan base last year, including the Jones family. The countless camera shots of a depressed luxury box started the process to think about the future.

The belief that Romo will return to action 100% should be taken with a grain of salt. Jones draft choice of Elliott with the 4th pick over Florida State safety Jalen Ramsay signifies that Romo needs help in the backfield. With DeMarco Murray leading the NFL rushing, Romo was able to audible out of the blitz more to protect his fragile frame. The hodge-podge mixture of running backs last year let him over exposed and his injury was inevitable.

Jones openness about pushing hard to get Paxton Lynch and drafting Prescott is the fresh thinking that fans have been craving. The Romo era is almost over.

Is Ezekiel Elliott the New Emmitt Smith?

Ezekiel Elliott joins a unique hall-of-fame class of top five running back picks by the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys selected Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott with the fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Now, the comparisons to other first round running back draft picks begin...

by Rodney Fisher

The Dallas Cowboys have only drafted a running back with within the first 5 picks twice: Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith.

Although Elliott is bigger, faster, and stronger than Smith was coming out of Florida, many fans believe that he will be the needed "triplet" piece to return the franchise to 90's dominance standards. More impressive than his stats is his leadership ability on a high ego team like Ohio State. When he did not feel he was being utilized enough on offense he spoke up. When the team needed someone to carry the load on or off the field, Zeke raised his hand first. That quality alone makes him more Emmitt-like than DeMarco Murray was.

Cowboys Actively Seeking Draft Trade

Dallas Cowboys looking to trade out of the fourth spot.

Sources within the Dallas Cowboys organization say the franchise is actively seeking trade partners to move down out of the #4 spot.

by Rodney Fisher

The Cowboys have been busy during the NFL free agency period locking up current players and adding new key position players like Alfred Morris at running back. As much as fans, myself including, have been salivating at the idea of drafting Tony Romo's replacement with the fourth pick, the team brass have been kicking the tires on a trade down to gain more late round picks.

There is no question. Not having Tony Romo and Dez Bryant for the majority of the 2015 season cost them big. There only reward was a high draft pick fueling the fire for Romo's replacement. Coming off yet another clavicle surgery in the offeseason, the team is content starting the season with him, Kellen Moore, and another veteran to be named later.

That leaves the door open for the Cowboys to add more depth in the draft versus the marquee player like Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Ezekiel Elliott, Jalen Ramsay, or Joey Bosa.

Teams like San Francisco and Los Angeles Rams are speculated to be possible trade partners.

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

The Dallas Cowboys has 19 free agents. They have 16 unrestricted free agents and 3 restricted. Now looking at the list of players and their salaries are mind boggling because some of these guys played below league standards not mentioning what the Cowboys thought they were getting. You have to make changes for the better not scrapping the dream of winning a Super Bowl just to rebuild. They have to bring in quality players that want to fit the mold of the philosophy of them team. Here`s the list and their salaries. (UFA Unrestricted Free Agent)

CB Morris Claiborne 5,175,069 UFA Keep him

The Truth About Tony Romo

The future of the quarterback position in Dallas is a big concern.

What`s next for Tony Romo after surgery?

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

Let`s face it. The surgery that Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is a difficult one. So many quarterbacks has been through what he`s going through right now. Repairing a broken clavicle in the right hands is easy. You have thousands of doctors and specialists performing this type of surgery everyday of the week. But in this case, Tony Romo is not the ordinary patient laying on the table. In the minds of Cowboy faithful he is the catalyst of the team and we need him healthy to win a Super Bowl. Let`s take a look at what happened to where we as Cowboy fans go from here.

The Injury

He broke his clavicle three different times in 5 years. This is a problem, we need him under center to win games. Every time he takes a sack or gets hit the fans, front office and players begin to sweat. This surgery hes having is to get the bone plated for protection. Plating the bone is basically hinging it to keep it from cracking or popping out of place.

Next Move for the Cowboys

Dallas has to draft a quarterback or sign another starter caliber quarterback over the off season. The Cowboys have a few veterans to chose from in the upcoming months. Fans would love to see RG3, Chase Daniels, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Moore or Tarvaris Jackson as a back up. You look at that list of names and say, “What is he thinking?” The key to the offense success over the past 3 years is the line. Look at what happened when DeMarco Murray ran behind it. Darren McFadden got a 1,000 yards behind them this past year. Romo is the leader but the line is the key.

Tony Romo`s Contract

Let`s face it Tony Romo will retire a Cowboy. On March 4, 2014 he converted $12.5 million of his base salary into a signing bonus. The move created $12.8 million in cap space. So the money is there to sign or draft a back up. But getting someone isn`t the proble. Signing someone that`s ready to step in is key!

What's Next for RGIII

What's next for RGIII? Will Dallas take a chance on him?

What`s next for RGIII?

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

He went from Baylor University standout quarterback to Heisman winner and 2012 NFL`s Rookie of The Year to a good quarterback looking for a team. How did this awesome athlete fall from grace? Lets take an in depth look at what`s next for RGIII.

I would say any other athlete in the world would be in the media ripping his head coach. So, since he won`t I will. RG3 performed at a high level for a team that has never had a line to block for him. He spent more time running for his life than running plays. He broke his leg in a game a played until he couldn`t go on it anymore. He suffered a concussion in a preseason game and in come Kirk Cousins and he played the rest of the year. Ow could this organization turn their backs on the franchise. In this article we would look at the teams and the numbers on RG3. I`m not a Redskins fan at all, but fair is fair. It`s sad to see how he was treated and mark my words he will be back!

Technically they Redskins has him under contract for the 2016 season because they exercised a $16.155 million fifth-year option on him.March 9th he will receive the bulk of the contract because his last season was injury ridden. Now on the 7th of February the Redskins will release him and try to retain the majority of the 16 million owed to him.

Potential Destinations

Houston Texans
Brian Hoyer proved that he`s way to shaky to carry a team will talented players. I would say that this will be a great fit. Houston will pick 22nd in this years draft looking for a quarterback. But signing RG3 will give them a defensive pick.

St. Louis Rams
They have the 15th pick in the draft. Jeff Fisher is on the hot seat and need production at the QB spot. On the other hand, Jeff Fisher had a bad falling out with Vince Young another running quarterback.

Dallas Cowboys
Backing up Tony Romo who is under contract until 2019. He will get some playing time because Romo will get hurt. I would love to see him under center leading a dynamic offense with a proven line.

Other team interested are: New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs.

2016 NFC Championship Preview: Carolina Panthers vs Arizona Cardinals

Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers host the Arizona Cardinals for the NFC Championship.

2016 NFC Championship Game

Carolina Panthers 15-1 NFC SouthArizona Cardinals 13-3 NFC West

Date: January 24, 2016

The Carolina Panthers came out in last weeks game and hit the Seattle Seahawks right in the mouth. That set the tone for what fans can expect from them. The Arizona Cardinals shocked everyone on how they played the Packers and pulled out a win. Now, this week we`re looking for a dynamic game from both teams. What can we expect on offense and defense from the Cardinals? Will CXam Newton be dominant against the Cardinal defense. Lets take a look at both teams and the keys for success.

Why you shouldn`t watch this game:

The WWE has a pay per view that starts at 7 and everyone wants to see Brock Lesnair, John Cena and Triple H.

Why you should watch this game:

All season fans wanted to see if Cam Newton will be exciting to watch as he runs, passes and dances all over the field all the way to Super Bowl 50! Or will Patrick Peterson pick off a pass and take it to the house for 6.

Arizona Cardinals

Carson Palmer is a good quarterback. When he`s on, he`s on! Larry Fitzgerald is the leader but he`s the X-factor. Carson Palmer has to get him the ball, not in the 4th quarter but early and often. Larry Fitzgerald has always been an excellent receiver but they never look to get him the ball. We can talk defense, offense and X`s and O`s. When you look at this team across the board he (Larry) has always been consistent. He is the key to victory hands down.

Carolina Panthers

Cam, Cam, Cam! He is the catalyst on offense. This game they have to bring him out of the pocket as a runner. You can best believe the last time they were this close he looked like a nervous freshman on the varsity during a must win district game. He played well but not like the superstar that he is. Luke Kuechly sets the stage for a stingy and very aggressive Panther defense. Look for a lot of heat being placed on Carson Palmer from the left side of the defensive line.

My Prediction

The Carolina Panthers advances to the Super Bowl by the score of 27-21. The Panthers are just to hot to be stopped. It`s their year .. Accept it!
