Lamar Odom: Flesh and Blood

by Matt Silverston

Say what you want about Lamar Odom, and go ahead and criticize his lifestyle and the choices he's made, but I will never hesitate to stand up for those human beings who suffer from addiction and mental illness.

Given that Odom's story as well as his whereabouts are uncertain and up-in-the-air at this time, the biggest issue at stake here is so much more than money, a reality TV drama, or a basketball hoop. His future livelihood as a healthy, spirited human being is under attack and in immediate jeopardy.

Mark Cuban, Mavs decide to keep Lamar Odom's Playoff Payout

Lamar Odom will not get his $14,000 payout for the Mavericks short run in the playoffs. The Mavericks were swept by the young OKC Thunder on Saturday. This comes as no surprise since Odom has not been with the team for quite some time.

Mavs cut ties with Lamar Odom

After a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night, the Mavericks staff decided it was time to part ways with Lamar Odom. They spent Easter Sunday working on the conditions of his release. Odom did release this statement to ESPNDallas.com, "The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it's in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team. I'm sorry that things didn't work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs' organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship."

At this point, Lamar will not be eligible to play on any team's playoff roster. It should be noted that the Mavs are 0-7 when Lamar has not played, but they have lost their share of games when he has.

Kobe Bryant on Lamar Odom, "I hope they don't unlock that mystery. I know how to use him..."

Kobe Bryant has never been one to encode messages with many words. We caught up with him last night after an impressive win over the Mavericks and his former teammate Lamar Odom. Odom ended the night with 1 point, going 0 - 3 from the floor.

"He comes to a team that's pretty much set. It's hard for him to find his niche and the fans, they don't really understand what he does or how he can do it."

The fans expressed their feelings for Lamar's troubled season with boo's.

"I hope they don't unlock that...unlock that mystery. I know, I know how to use him and use his skill set and this, that and the other, but with this team and the roster that [they] have being pretty much set its tough for him to find...to find his groove."

"It's tough because like I said they have their niche, they have their run, they have their execute, they have their group of core guys and Lamar is not a player you just plug in. I mean you feature him. Like we featured him terms of his ball handling and post up ability and things like that."

Mavericks try to quiet trade rumors

With the March 15th deadline rapidly approaching, smoke usually means fire with trade rumors. None bigger than the biggest trade available with Dwight Howard and Deron Williams.

The buzz at the AAC last night centered around the missing Roddy Beaubois and Lamar Odom. Both were officially listed out for family reasons. The Mavericks have been actively shopping Roddy to see what the potential of a quick guard can get on the open market. Anyone bringing Roddy to their team would be looking primarily at potential only, since head coach Rick Carlisle barely gives him minutes. Rumors began to circulate through the halls of the sold out arena.

Questions regarding our information were repeatedly denied by Mavericks personnel, but what else is expected. All teams are playing it close to the vest during All-star weekend which ironically takes place in the house that Dwight built in Orlando.

The more shocking development was a tweet from reality TV star, and wife of Lamar Odom, Khloe Kardashian that she was battling a stomach ailment. Could that be reason enough to miss the last game before a long break against your former team that traded you for essentially nothing? If so, a trade may be a welcomed reality.

Sources: Roddy B and Lamar Odom trade in the works

Sources have told us that a Maverick trade is in the works that includes PG Roddy Beaubois and recently aquired point-forward Lamar Odom. The Mavericks have not confirmed such a trade is taking place.

Speculation regarding a trade has been fueled by rumors of the Mavs shopping Roddy and the absence of Lamar Odom for tonight's game against his former team the Lakers

Fans heckles Lamar Odom after loss to Nuggets

Mavs lose to the Nuggets tonight to start the quest to repeat as NBA Champs 0 - 2. For the second day in a row the Champs allow themselves to go down 30+ in a game. Denver's biggest lead of the night was 31.

It was at that point you heard fans react with boo's. Mavs fans in attendance were again going to be escorted early out of the arena without partying in the Old No. 7.

As the team left the court for the locker room after losing 115 - 93 Lamar Odom, who did at least make it the whole game to go 1 of 10, kicked a wet floor sign. Fans that crowded the walkway normally to cheer and take facebook snapshots heckled the players while waiting for Lamar's wife to exit the tunnel. A fans direct comment to Odom saying, "Oh now you wanna get mad?", prompted security to intervene.

Rick Carlisle wants to take responsibility for the Mavs slow start admitting after the game that he does not have this team ready to play. Shawn Marion seems to think that the chemistry is just not there yet saying, "We've still got to get comfortable out there. We're not comfortable with each other on both ends of the floor. We're still trying to learn each other's games...".

Talking with the heckling fan he thinks that blame should start higher up. He feels that if Cuban really wanted to win he would have brought Tyson Chandler, Caron Butler, and JJ Barea back.

The Mavs take on the media favorite OKC Thunder next in a road game this Thursday. They could easily return back to the AAC Friday to face the Raptors 0 - 3.

Drinking Games: Lakers vs Clippers

Here is a list of 5 great drinking games for tonight's Lakers vs Clippers preseason match-up

  1. Alley-Oop - Take a shot every time Chris Paul throws an alley-oop dunk to Blake Griffin. Be warned, this could be a long night
  2. Star Gazer - Take a shot every time they show a celebrity in the crowd. This is only for people with a high tolerance level
  3. Say My Name - Take a shot every time the broadcast mentions "Dwight Howard" or "Lamar Odom". Depending on the score late in the game, this may get you trashed.
  4. I'll Pass - Take a shot every time Kobe passes the ball. Great game for light drinkers.
  5. I'm too old for this - Take a shot every time Chris Paul makes Derek Fisher look like father time. This is also for high tolerance level drinkers. Enjoy and drink responsibly.
