The NBA has officially announced the contestants for the 2015 Sprite Slam Dunk contest. Although many are please with the return of the old judging format, the lack of superstar names should be nothing new...right?
by +Rodney FisherThis year's contestants for the slam dunk title will be Victor Oladipo, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Mason Plumlee, and rookie Zach LaVine.
Many speculating that we could see some bigger NBA names in the contest this year, since the great stage of New York City is hosting the weekend. The contest has now become an outlet for up-and-coming talent to gain some exposure during the celebrated weekend.
I expected to see John Wall return and Andrew Wiggins compete, but I was wrong.
Twitter erupted with mixed reviews of the announcement:
Kinda disappointed @KingJames didn't join the #NBA Slam dunk contest 😳

Wait, Plumlee is in the NBA dunk contest? Less than two years ago I saw him get out-dunked by Angelo Sharpless in Eastern N.C.

NBA dunk contest might actually be pretty decent this year. I wouldn't bet against LaVine though

I guess this plea to LeBron did not work...The return to the original two round format is worth watching alone. I was sitting in the arena last year and could not make sense out of the East vs West theme to the whole night. Here are some highlights to get you ready...
