Yankees Break Losing Streak In Victory Over Toronto

The New York Yankees broke their four game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over Toronto last night. Jacoby Ellsbury’s double to center field with two outs in the third inning scored Francisco Cervelli from second base and would prove to be the go ahead run for New York.

Jose Reyes clubbed a leadoff home run that hit off the façade of the second deck in right field giving Toronto the early 1-0 lead. Later that inning, Brett Gardner made a spectacular feet first diving play to end the  inning by running down a Dioner Navarro fly ball in foul territory.It was  a catch that would ribval anyone made on this night in the major leagues.  
The Yankees tied the game in the third inning as Kelly Johnson drew a walk and Cervelli drove Johnson home with a RBI double off the base of the right field wall.
The Blue Jays  cut the Yankees lead to 4-3 in the fifth inning. It started with Munenori Kawasaki drawing a walk followed by a Jose Reyes belting a ground rule double that bounced over the right field wall. Later in the inning, Melky Cabrera stepped up and delivered a two run single to left field. Toronto could almost smell a comeback win at this point.
In the seventh inning, New York loaded the bases up and Teixeira added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Gardner from third making the score 5-3 at that point.
Despite yielding the leadoff home run to Reyes and 2 run single to Cabrera, Hideki Kuroda pitched 6 effective innings, giving up three runs, eight hits, walking two and striking out two batters to even up his record at 5-5 on the season.
Aided by a couple of crucial double plays. Shawn Kelley and Matt Thornton came in to get critical outs for the Yankees. Closer David Robertson who had not pitched in one week was called upon by Manager Joe Girardi for the five out save  and delivered.It was  his 18th save of the season as the Yankees were able to salvage the last game of this series with Toronto.
