2013 NBA Finals: Game 5 Adjustments

by Rodney Fisher

Game 5 adjustments for 2013 NBA Finals
If this 2013 NBA Finals series has proven anything, it is that coaching plays a huge role in determining a win. Both Eric Spoelstra and Greg Popovich have had to make the right adjustments to give their team the winning edge causing the back-and-forth see-saw of wins and losses. What adjustments in Game 5 should the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs make to get a win?

MLB: Gerrit Cole Impresses in Debut

by Matt Kellet
Gerrit Cole

On Tuesday night Gerrit Cole, the #1 prospect in the Pittsburgh Pirates organisation, took the mound for his first major league start.

As with all top prospect debuts, there was a sense of excitement in the air, as well as the fear that it could all go wrong. Luckily for the Pirates, Cole justified the hype.

NFL: The Colts made the sneaky good signing of the week

by JT

With people watching the NBA Finals, trying to #FreeOcho and wondering what kind of the trouble PacMan will get into people probably were not paying attention to the sniper move the Colts pulled off this week. You don’t have to be a Colts fan to respect their come up.

NFL: Future of Cincinnati Bengals - Keep A.J. Green & Geno Atkins At All Costs

by Chad Jones

Cincinnati Bengals Owner Mike Brown, son of legendary Paul Brown, is often criticized for his stewardship of the Franchise. Sitting atop the organization, he oversees Player Personnel. Known for employing the smallest scouting staff in the league, it hasn't inhibited building a talented roster. In tandem with egregiously underrated coach Marvin Lewis and a staff that excels with Player Development, the Bengals have built a talented roster.

NFL: Tim Tebow - The Media Darling

by Chad Jones

Commissioner Roger Goodell announced future NFL Drafts will take place in May, a move aimed at extending the offseason through the lull period that invariably emerges after the drafts conclusion. The NFL once was a September-February business, covering half the calendar year. Efforts to make the NFL a year round business have paid extraordinary dividends.

Even casual fans are drawn into the annual NFL draft, which was moved to Primetime to accommodate TV audiences. The NFL Combine has lure, with fans talking 40 times & hot QB prospects around the water cooler. The merger of sports & entertainment was inevitable, but under Commissioner Goodell it's catalyzed significantly.

NFL: Tebow Right Fit In New England

by Rodney Fisher
Tim Tebow will be joining the New England Patriots this upcoming NFL season as the third string quarterback on the roster. This move as been rumored since Tebow was released from the New York Jets, but with the official announcement today, this seems like the right fit for both.

NFL Draft Player Profile: Aaron Lynch of South Florida (USF)

by Derrik Klassen
(Lynch #19) Photo credit to thebiglead.com
In 2011, Lynch had a Clowney-like year at Notre Dame. As far fetched as it may sound, it is completely accurate. Unfortunately, Lynch decided to transfer to USF because he was home sick. The transfer made him ineligible to play in 2012. Lynch will return next season as one of the most dominant forces in college football.

NBA: The Milwaukee Bucks offer to extend Monta Ellis, could this mean Brandon Jennings is out?

Monta Ellis has a player option for the 13-14 season worth 11.8 million. A lot of people believe that Ellis could possibly opt out and test the free agent waters. After learning the Bucks offered Ellis a 3 year 36 million dollar extension pending on if he opts in this summer it could make his decision a lot harder. Will he leave the money on the table and test the water or will he take the for sure thing and the extension?

Are You Not Entertained? Viewership Down for 2013 NBA Finals

NBA Finals viewers down 12%
by Rodney Fisher

If Game 1 of the 2013 NBA Finals are any indication for the rest of the series, the ABC is due for a loss. According to the Associated Press, viewership for Game 1 is down 12% from the previous year's match-up between the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder.

NFL: Will London Get a NFL Stadium?

Could London get a NFL Stadium? Photo credit UK.EuroSport

by Chad Jones

Only one in NFL history has been financed devoid public funding- Met Life Stadium. The rest have been financed by the tax payer, You & Me.  State legislatures are highly polarized, and thus hesitant to offer rich owners public funds to build new monstrosities. The only viable method for ensuring a new stadium is leveraging a potential relocation.

MLB: The Astros Take Mark Appel with the #1 Pick

Mark Appel is the #1 pick
by Matt Kellett

With the first pick in yesterday's MLB draft, the Houston Astros drafted RHP Mark Appel from Stanford. In completely different fashion to last year, the Astros went with the expensive college arm instead of the cheap high school talent, a move that will pay off quickly.

As I said in my mock draft, the Astros need pitchers, specifically a front-of-the-rotation ace to be the main building block of their rebuilding efforts.

NFL Fantasy Football: Fantasy Sleeper Mike Williams

by Arif Hasan

Mike Williams. Photo credit BucsNation
Fantasy owners tend not to win or lose because they made the right choice in the first or second round. It’s usually the mid- to late-rounds (along with smart strategic decisions) that distinguish a playoff contender from a toilet bowl honoree, and that’s where a fantasy favorite term gets thrown around—the sleeper.

Sleepers are generally those that are projected to be drafted late (say, the 50th wide receiver or the 12th quarterback) who are expected to outperform their projection significantly (to become around the 25th best receiver or 8th best quarterback).

NBA: Who does the NBA Finals format really benefit?

by JT

I researched a fact I didn’t know and found out that the NBA Finals has had the 2-3-2 format since 1985. I personally didn’t realize the format was like this until 2008, did I have my head in the sand for that long? Probably but who does this format really benefit?

NFL: Packers Sam Shields- Elite Ballhawk on the Rise

by Chad Jones

Agent Drew Rosenhaus meet with Packers General Manager Ted Thompson Monday, and the day concluded with client Sam Shields signing his Restricted Free Agent Tender. Slated to earn $ 2.023 Million in 2013, Shields is an extension candidate whose best football lies ahead. Quintessential late bloomer, the 25 year old converted from wide receiver during his Senior season at Miami. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2010, Shields paid immediate dividends, and his development was faster than even the Packers anticipated.

NBA: Jason Kidd unlaces his Nike's

First Grant Hill hangs up his Fila's, now Jason Kidd hangs up the Nike's. It seems like my childhood is ending right before my eyes. Dog I'm getting old but that's besides the point.

Kidd played for 19 seasons after being drafted in 1994, yeah think about it man that's a long time. Kidd played for the Mavs 2xs, Suns, New Jersey Nets and Knicks. He also was co rookie of the year with Grant Hill, an All Star 10xs, All NBA Defensive 9xs (1st or 2nd), All NBA 6xs (1st or 2nd team) and an owner of one NBA Title.

Top 15 NFL Players Under 25 Years Old

(JJ Watt #99) Photo credit to Occnreport.com
1. JJ Watt, Houston Texans

Nobody should be this big and powerful, yet still quick and explosive. JJ Watt can beat any Offensive Lineman in the league and even throws his hands up and swats an uncountable amount of passes. There's no scheming around JJ Watt. He will dominate no matter what.

2. Von Miller, Denver Broncos

Speed is the name of the game for this pass rushing technician. Miller has a wide assortment of moves that can make any opposing Lineman look like fools. While he is incredibly quick and explosive, he won't get rag-dolled around. He sports enough strength to stay up and fight to reach the QB.

NFL: Could Russell Wilson Have An Even Better Year Two

Russell Wilson. Photo credit NFL

All things considered, it is hard to imagine Russell Wilson having a better season than he did in 2012. After being selected and considered a career backup by many in the NFL, he started for the Seahawks and led them to the playoffs. Now, Wilson is not sneaking up on anyone. The question is, can he excel even more in year two?

Grant Hill retires after 19 seasons live on the set of NBA on TNT.

Hill was once a superstar before injuries derailed a potential all time great career. He played for the Pistons, Magic, Suns and Clippers. His best years were with the Pistons that's where the people my age remember him from.

Check out how Grant Hill called it quits while on the set with Charles, Kenny, Ernie and Shaq.

NBA: Larry Drew takes his talents to Milwaukee

The Milwaukee Bucks found their man Friday night as they announced that Larry Drew will be their top dog on the sideline next year. Drew agreed to a 4 year contract totalling 10 million dollars throughout the life of the deal.

NFL Draft Player Profile: Bryn Renner of North Carolina

by Derrik Klassen
(Renner #2) Photo credit to CollegeFootball.org
Last season, UNC produced Jonathan Cooper, Brennan Williams, and Giovani Bernard, all of which were offensive players. Another key player in UNC's offensive success was QB Bryn Renner. While he may not be at the caliber of Bridgewater or Fales, there is still a considerable amount of NFL potential in Renner. He flashes more than enough arm talent for the NFL, but I question some of the finer parts of his game.

NFL Fantasy Football: IDP Sleeper Da'Norris Searcy

by Arif Hasan

When putting together a fantasy team in an IDP league, it’s not unwise to dip into the same well twice. While grabbing a receiver and a quarterback from the same team can multiply the impact of variability, having two IDP players from the same team can often produce the opposite effect—if they are both high performers, one will likely make up for the missed production of another, and smooth out spikes and troughs in production. Shared IDP players will produce stability.

NBA Playoffs: LeBron James Gives Heat 3-2 Lead Over Pacers

The Miami Heat are one game away from returning to The NBA Finals for a third straight year. They defeat the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 90-79.

Teams that win Game 5 of a tied series statically go on to win the series. The Pacers played very well in the first half, but were outscored in the third quarter 30-13.

MLB Draft: Who will be the first player taken?

NFL Draft Player Profile: Devin Gardner of Michigan

by Derrik Klassen
(Gardner #12) Photo credit to DetroitNews.com
The converted WR may have only played the final 5 games at QB, but he still flashed glaring signs of NFL potential. He lacks the finer skills, but he definitely has all of the physical tools. While he needs refinement, he shows plenty of talent for a player who was thrown into the fire with little experience at the position and a struggling team to work with. His potential ceiling is somewhere up in the stars.

NBA Playoffs: Indiana Pacers Even Series 2-2 With Miami Heat; 99-92

by Rodney Fisher
LeBron James fouls out in Game 4. Photo credit NBA

The Indiana Pacers did exactly what they needed to do and played desperate in Game 4. The talk today is more about the officiating than the actual play in the game. LeBron James fouls out with less than a minute to go in the game. This is only the second time he has done so in the playoffs in his career. Dewayne Wade gets a questionable traveling call and Paul George was shut down in the first half by the officiating.

NFL: Flacco's Agent Joe Linta Calls Ravens 'Dumb', I call them Brilliant

by Chad Jones

Consensus remains the lucrative deal Joe Flacco signed (6 Years 120.6 Million w/ 39 M Guaranteed) forced the Ravens to let key veterans depart in Free Agency. In reality, the Flacco deal was it's own entity, and the other moves were the best way to build another Super Bowl Winner.

NFL: 2014 NFC East Offseason Question Marks- Players to Keep an Eye On

Over the past 2 NFL Seasons, the salary cap has been relatively flat at 123 Million. Teams are anxiously awaiting the kick-in of new television money in 2015, which will allow the cap to rise significantly over the remainder of the current CBA. Let's take a look at NFC East Cap concerns for 2014.

The San Antonio Spurs win the Western Conference Finals series 4-0 over the Memphis Grizzlies. Tim Duncan has turned back the hands of time, but it was Tony Parker that lifted the team with a 37 point performance. The Spurs won 93-86 and can rest until June 6th to start The Finals.

NFL Draft Player Profile: Marcus Mariota of Oregon

by Derrik Klassen

Despite being a Freshman, Mariota made a name for himself in the 2012-2013 season. Now, while he is talented and flashes many valuable traits, he still needs refinement, like any young QB. Few QBs can dominate like Mariota did, let alone doing it as a Freshman. Manziel, who is criminally over-rated as an NFL prospect and shouldn't even be considered a top 10 QB, is over-shadowing Mariota and could end up making Mariota a steal come draft day.

NFL Draft Player Profile: Aaron Murray of Georgia

by Derrik Klassen
(Murray #11) Photo credit: OnlineAthens.com
Big time school equals big time talent, right? Wrong! None of the SEC QBs, yes, that includes Manziel, are worth more than a 4th round pick. The notion of Murray, McCarron, Manziel, etc. are worth even a 2nd round pick, let alone a 1st round choice, is absolutely absurd. All of the SEC QBs are products of the system as the talent that surrounds them makes them look good and enables them to put up solid stats, but raw stats are a deceiving and flawed system. Every SEC QB is over-rated and Murray is not an exception.

NHL Playoffs: James Neal, The Real Deal

by Hunter Hodies

Pittsburgh has a own unique name for James Neal. They call him “The Real Deal.” That’s exactly what he has been these last 2 games for the Penguins. He has 5 goals to along with a few assists as well.
After a slow start to the series, James Neal has shown the Hockey Gods that he wants a Stanley Cup. He has been performing the last 2 games better than star players Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. He had a Hat trick last night against the Senators in Game 5 when they clinched the series and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since they won their 4th Stanley Cup in 2009.

NFL: Are Sunday Pregame Shows Still Worth Watching?

by Chad Jones
What NFL pregame show are you watching? Photo credit Vimeo
NFL pregame shows are losing viewership. The entrenched networks ESPN, Fox & CBS face new rivals- NFL Network & 'New Media'. Some of the attributes for the decline is fans having other priorities before kickoff like religious obligations, kid's sports games, brunch with friends, etc. Attending Church or cheering at your kids soccer games are not new American ideals. So let's address the major pregame shows for their substance.

NFL: IDP Sleeper Nigel Bradham

by Arif Hasan
Nigel Bradham of Buffalo Bills. Photo credit NFL
When selecting a player in IDP, fans often forget that the quality of the player matters a lot less than their box score. In an ideal fantasy league, that’s not the case, but there isn’t an ideal fantasy league. One way to get the jump on your friends in these leagues is to identify players who have the system rigged in their favor.
A study by Pro Football Focus found that six teams are much more likely to award a pass defensed on a particular play when at home (Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Detroit, New York (Jets), Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle), and of those six teams, Buffalo also awards more solo tackles and assisted tackles.
Baltimore, Philadelphia and San Francisco are also more likely to award a solo tackle instead of an assist.
Buffalo also has an opportunity to play against fantasy friendly teams like the Patriots, the Jets and the Browns.
