Big 12 Mens Basketball Strong Heading Into March Madness

Kansas Jayhawks look to win Big 12 and head into March strong.

Big 12 Mens Basketball

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

The Big 12 Mens basketball standings are in some cases intriguing. Most young ballers look for the dazzling lights of North Carolina, Duke, Michigan and Indiana. There are so many conferences and teams that litter USA Today, ESPN and Fox Sports. When I played in high school the teams I wanted to play for was UNLV, DePaul, Duke, St. John`s and Temple just to name a few. These teams was the cream of the crop when it came to Men`s basketball. Let`s take a look at the Big 12 conference and standings. Mind you Oaklahoma was the number team in the country before losing 2 straight games. Kansas is the darling of the conference and they`ve been beaten twice this year. It`s been 26 games into the season and March is looming. Here are the standings.

Team Wins Loss PCT Streak
Kansas 22 4 .846 W6
West Virginia 20 6 .769 L1
Oklahoma 20 5 .800 L2
Baylor 19 7 .731 W1
Texas 17 9 .654 W1
Iowa State 18 8 .692 L1
Texas Tech 16 9 .640 W3
Kansas State 15 11 .577 W1
Oklahoma State 12 14 .462 L1
TCU 11 15 .423 L2

One might look at the standings and say, “What`s wrong with TCU and Oklahoma State?”

You answer is in really bad injuries and depth on the bench. Last year these teams made a lot of noise during the national tournament. The Big 12 will be well represented during March Madness.

Will Trevor Ariza stay in Houston?

NBA Trade Rumors

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

It`s that time of year! Every team is gearing up for the playoffs and getting the right fit to make a run at the NBA Championship. First things first, you have to look at cap space, long term deals and locker room fit. Dwight Howard is at the to of the list. Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Al Horford, Goran Dragic, Hassan Whiteside, Luol Deng and Randy Foye are just a tip of the iceberg.

Dwight Howard is the key to the movement. During the All-Star break it was rumored that the Rockets wanted a 3 team trade for Howard. “I never ask anyone for a trade. The team and I will fix what`s broken”, Howard said. “You have to remember that they`re only rumors that`s all”.

Howard wants a max deal deal that could land him 8 years 124 million, but Houston is reluctant. “Why would you give a player that kind of money and he only practices every other practice,!” said Houston`s ex coach Kevin McHale. Houston thought of trading Howard to Memphis for Marc Gasol before he went down with an injury last month.

The Heat has their eyes set on Houston swingman Trevor Ariza. Ariza loves it in Houston along side Harding.

Take a look at Randy Foye in Denver. Denver is guard heavy with rookie Emmanuel Mudiay getting better and Jameer Nelson on the bench to provide a spark.

The New Orleans Pelicans are going back and forth with Bucks big man Greg Monroe. He would be a good fit with Anthony Davis in the post. The Pelicans are also flirting with Omer Asik and Ryan Anderson in a trade.

Peyton Manning`s Place in History

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

Peyton Manning is one of the most intriguing quarterbacks to ever play the game. He`s not flashy, fast or cocky. He`s just a flat out winner!

The football Gods have ordained him a champion, a leader, and a four-time MVP. One might say that he is one of the smartest quarterbacks to play the game. Manning's key to success is the bond he has with his receivers. Every off season he, along with his receivers and tight ends, work out with the play book and develop hand signals. Defenses are too busy listening to “Omaha Omaha Omaha” at the line to every pay attention. The hand signals directs the receivers to certain spots on the field. This is one of the main reasons why Peyton has a spot in history.

Let`s take a look at his accolades and records Peyton obtained in his 18 year career.
  • He has the NFL touchdown passing record with 509 and counting.
  • Single season passing touchdown record with 55 in 2013.
  • Most passing yards with 5477 set in 2013.
  • Most games throwing for 300+ yards with 86.
  • Most passing touchdowns in a game with 7 in 2013.
  • Most games with a passer rating higher than 105.92.
  • Most games with a perfect passer rating of 158.3:5.
  • Most seasons with 350+ completions with 9.
  • Highest yards-per game, season 342.31 in 2013.
  • Most seasons with 4,000+ yards with:13.
  • First quarterback to beat 31 franchises.
  • One of two quarterbacks to beat all 32 teams along with Brett Farve.

He is cemented in history as one of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game. He is a first ballot Hall of Famer and legend. Peyton Manning will always be remember as, “The Sheriff!”

Isiah Thomas joins the new list of NBA All-Stars.

First Time NBA All Stars

by Da`Vince “Dino” Wright

The 2016 NBA All Star game with be very intriguing. This will be Kobe`s last year playing (retiring), Pau Gasol didn`t make it and Dirk will be taking a rest while on the team. The starting line ups is a ball handlers dream with Chris Paul, James Harden, John Wall and Kyrie Irving.

Let take a look at the new guys playing for the first time. Draymond Green, Andre Drummond and Isiah Thomas will make their first appearance in the 2016 game. Lets take a look at these young guys and how they got to be All stars.

Draymond Green - Forward GS Warriors

He leads the NBA in triple doubles with 6 this season. He`s a forward with great court vision and distribute the ball like a guard. He has good ball handling skills and will take a rebound and push it down the floor for a score or an assist. This won`t be his last All-Star game.

Andre Drummond - Center Detroit Pistons

He leads the league in double-double and in rebounds this season. He`s the face of the resurgence of the Pistons. He`s the only true center beside DeMarcus Cousins playing in this years game. Great as a post player when his back is facing the rim.

Isaiah Thomas - Point Guard Boston Celtics

Brad Stevens stepped into a hornets nest by becoming the head coach for the Boston Celtics. He had no stars and cornerstone for the rebuilding of the franchise. They traded away Jeff Green and others to rebuild. In comes Isaiah Thomas. He is the unquestioned leader for his team. The team roll when he has control of the ball. I can say I`m happy to see him shine.

This years All-Star Game will be one to remember. Not because of the star power but the first year players that have made their way to the forefront to the NBA`s elite. Great job guys.
