The Stars lead off the 1st period looking flat, while the Flyers did exactly that. They flew all over the ice! Patrick Nemeth left early in the 1st period with an arm laceration.Trevor Daley picked up any slack scoring the Stars first goal with 9:09 left putting the Flyers on their heels.
The Flyers gathered themselves putting 14 shots on goal with two finding the net, by Couturier and Brayden Scheen. The Stars found themselves out of position on both sides of the puck. They gave up a lot of transition shots to the Flyers from being out of position when the puck transitioned.
The theme for Period 2 was: DEFENSE
The Stars seemed to have found their rhythm as the 2nd period began. Erik Cole scored his 1st goal of the season. They were staying in their zones on defense which allowed the Stars to open up the score. Two goals on a Power Play with 2 mins left in the 2nd period by Trevor Daly(2) and Jamie Benn. Tyler Seguin was part of all the action racking up the assists along with Jason Spezza. Kari Lehtonen was a Wall defending all shots on Goal. Stars lead at the end of Period 2, 4-2
The theme for Period 3 was: Action!!
The Flyers made a goalie change to #29 Emory, who did a decent job, giving up Jason Spezza's 1st goal of the season. With 11:28 left in the period the Flyers started their comeback trail with Andrew MacDonald scoring goal number three. The Flyers were more aggressive having four guys in the scoring zone and leaving one back in the defensive zone.
The Flyers were able to tie the game up with 5:46 left in the 3rd period. Jason Spezza found the net for the first time this season with 5:06 left to give the Stars a 5 - 4 lead. The Flyers were able to equalize the game with 3:53 left in the 3rd period, with a goal by Michael Raffl, sending it to Overtime.
Overtime Period 4
Things went quickly in overtime for the Stars giving up a crucial penalty which lead to a face-off, followed by a Flyers goal ending the game with the Stars on the loosing end 6 to 5.
Rebounding the puck on offense is what the Stars need to get those 2nd chance goals. Coach Ruff said "We played dumb hockey, not defending well. You can't win games if You do not defend." A tough, undefeated Vancouver team lies in wait for the Stars this Tuesday night at the AAC. Defense will be the topic of discussion Monday in Frisco as the Stars look to improve their record from 2-2-1.
Go Stars!!
