Notre Dame Breezes by Syracuse 31-15

Everett Golson put together a historic night against Syracuse at MetLife Stadium completing 25 completions in a row breaking a Notre Dame record and one short of an FBS record as the Fighting Irish outlasted the Orange 31-15.

Golson finished the game 33 out of 40 with 363 yards and four touchdowns. However, he did commit four turnovers with two interceptions.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Fighting Irish broke through marching downfield 95 yards as Golson tossed a screen pass to William Fuller who took into the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown.

After forcing the Orange to punt away on their next possession, Notre Dame extended their lead to 14-0 as Golson hooked up with Fuller on a 72-yard play action strike.
The Fighting Irish had a scoring opportunity right before the end of the first half but Golson mishandled the ball on an attempted spike to the ground. On further review by the referees who blew the play dead and awarded possession of the ball to Syracuse.
In the 3rd quarter, the Fighting Irish pushed the leads to 21-3 as Golson connected with Corey Robinson who made a dazzling acrobatic catch peddling backwards into the end zone.
After Greg Bryant fumbled the ball away, Syracuse took advantage of the miscue. Quarterback Terrel Hunt scrambled for a 7-yard touchdown cutting Notre Dame’s lead to 21-9 with extra-point blocked.
The Fighting Irish recovered the ensuing onside kick and made good use of the short field. Golson lofted a 13-yard touchdown pass to Torri Hunter Jr. furthering the lead to 28-9.
Syracuse responded with five minutes left in the 4th quarter Durell Eskridge picked off Golson returning the ball back for a 29-yard touchdown, reducing Notre Dame’s lead to 28-17.
The Orange went for a 2-point conversion but failed to convert. A Kyle Brindza 37-yard field goal with just under two minutes remaining widened the Irish lead to 31-15.

Notre Dame racked up 29 first downs, 161 yards rushing and 523 total yards.
